The more I think about it, I have to agree with Oliver about Flint being from Delta. Not just because of the beret and piloting skills, but also the part about him planning and leading hostage rescue missions that were classified. Oliver is also right about Hama: He can be a great story teller at times,but he's not a god. As far as the Coast Guard is concerned, I know they are often maligned by some, but they do some of the things that the regular Navy has to do in war on a daily basis -such as boarding hostile vessels. IIRC, they have some"elite" teams that specialize in taking out"go fast" boats from helicopters using modified M-240s and M82s.
Also (and this is just a bit convoluted, but try and follow me), we have to consider Falcon... so Flint was the new "leader" character for his year group. His background is very similar to Duke, and he's basically Duke's replacement in the Cartoon. in '87, Falcon is produced by Hasbro as the new "leader" character. He's sort of a cross between Duke and Flint (with a bit of Stalker thrown in) for his filecard. It's mentioned that he was with "Blue Light Group"... that was a competitor with Delta early on... a unit from 5th Special Forces group. It's basically a Delta Force-like unit. If Falcon is the "new Flint", and Falcon is from Blue Light... wouldn't it make sense that Flint came from Delta? Also, look at Flint in the Action Force, he's an SAS Commando. The equivalent of the SAS in the U.S. isn't Special Forces. It's Delta. For U.S. Flint to be equal to UK Flint, he would need to be from Delta. That black beret wasn't a mistake. It was a clue.

I like the Flint Delta Connection. It does help explain the oddities of his training.
I like to imagine that Hawk came fron a Delta Background. He knew Stalker back in the day and Duke was just given to him, but Lowlight and Mercer were from his Delta company. (i mean v2 Mercer who i treat as a separate character who went undercover and everyone mistakes for V1 Mercer. Because they look alike since they are brothers.) Flint fits in just right with these guys. Any other potential Delta Guys? So, I accept Hawk as former Delta Force And Low-Light as you mentioned. Probably Claymore (but he's also probaby ISA) I've always seen Falcon's "Blue Light" background as a euphamism for Delta, it's a Delta equivalent. Stalker may have been Delta Duke and Roadblock may have come from Delta. I would imgaine Chuckles was either Delta, or more likely ISA Spirit could have been... he's always been really interesting to me. Who else, do you think? Your Mercer theory has always cracked me up. ;)

Good catch with Flint's beret, Oliver. I just saw a pic of Randy Shughart and Gary Gordon and they are wearing black berets with red flashes as well. As for Stalker, I think the green beret was just a factory paint error or cost cutting measure because his original card art shows a tiger-striped beret like his uniform and LRP/Rangers sometimes wore those in Vietnam. I like to think Stalker eventually went SF though.

I know what you mean about Shughart's and Gordon's berets. I checked those two. When I found all this, and though of Flint, it all just clicked into place. I felt like yelling: Mystery Solved!!!

Technically, G.I. Joe is a very special branch of Delta. I just always assmumed every character had a lot of lee-way with what they wore. Look at Wild Bill, Gung-Ho and Spirit, for heaven's sake! Yeah, Stalker probably should have been wearing a tiger-striped beret, but he may have been wearing a buddy's from the War in order to remember him (or would that be disrespectful?).
Also: Are we sure he wasn't considered a Green Beret? Green Berets can be Rangers, too, or am I way off base? (I know this has been discussed before, but you're crazy if you think I'm reading through a 1000+ posts to find it!) Last edited by seaneley; 04-14-2015 at 05:26 PM.. Reason: more info |

In a flashback in ARAH # 94, Snake Eyes recollects a point in time when a Specialist called 'Corky Barnett' delivers Stalker, Storm Shadow and himself to MACV-SOG HQ for duty.
Given that MACV-SOG were mostly Special Forces, a few SEALs / UDTs, a handful of Force Recon and some USAF pilots and Combat Controllers, I think it's pretty good evidence of all 3 being SF qualified. What do you boys think?? Last edited by Tyroc; 04-14-2015 at 11:51 PM.. |

You know that is as good an argument as any for their Special Forces connection. The only problem is the 75th was stood up with units from the LRRP units. this seems like a logical enough transition for Stalker

As for who else might be Delta, I can think of 5 possibles;
1) Footloose - His Action Force profile writes about his SAS service 2) Crankcase - His filecard writes about his attending a SAS driving course. That course is usually held only for SAS / SBS / SRR personnel and for most SAS guys it's a precursor to joining one of the Mobility Troops. Also the AWE Striker is very reminiscent of the 'Pink Panther' Desert Patrol Vehicles popularized by the SAS. 3) Clutch - according to his filecard, he attended Executive Bodyguard training. I think only Delta / DEVGRU / ISA perform close protection services (and 5th SFGA in Afghanistan before they handed over the mission to DEVGRU) 4) Hit & Run - His Action Force profile discusses his SAS service 5) Ditto Outback Last edited by Tyroc; 04-15-2015 at 12:55 AM.. |
