Ha! What if we get Prince Harry? I don't think that name has made an appearance.

Quick quiz. Can anyone tell me the other Joe whose filename reveals he is a third "III"?
The only reason I care is because I am a III as well.

Everybody's favorite Joe Dee-Jay.
BTW, both Flaggs have the same name and even serial number, I think. So either they're the same person, or we just ignore the comic pack bio like we ignore all the nonsense from later filecards. Since the '92 Flagg had the name first, I consider him to be the genuine James Longstreet Flagg. He's actually the older brother, which is why he gets the number. The dead Flagg is the younger brother and named something else, possibly Ulysses Samuel Solomon Flagg. |

Ding ding ding! Nice Nero.
Yeah the comic pack used the exact same filecard as the 92 Flagg when it was obviously meant to be the father.

I like your genealogy nero. Although ten years as a Brigadier general might not be allowed. Lawrence J Flagg died in 83-84?

Has there been a discussion about General Flagg's wild file-card? He's supposed to be the son of the original Flagg, who was a pretty young guy (Hawk says as much in issue #1), yet Flagg III has already been promoted to general himself? Makes no sense. How old is the youngest US general in modern days, anyway?
Side note: during wartime he was quickly promoted and became a Major General on Aug. 17th, 1942; Lt. General on Nov. 11th, 1942; and became the youngest 4-star General on Mar. 10th, 1945. Not a bad rise to fame! Also: James Gavin became a brigadier general at the age of 36 in Oct. 1943 and the Army's youngest major general in July 1943 for outstanding combat duty, making him younger than Clark when he achieved this pay grade. He retired as a Lt. General. Dean C. Strother was promoted to Brigadier General at 35. Way young (but no word on if he was the youngest). Edward J. Timberlake Jr. was promoted by the Air Force to Brigadier General at the young age of 33 for outstanding combat duty! And, last but not least, Garrison H. Davidson was promoted to Brigadier General at the age of 39. (I suppose Hawk and the 2 Flaggs could possibly have been close to these guys' ages at the same time of promotion, being so heroic and all?) Last note: A young Douglas MacArthur was 45 when he was promoted to Major General by the U.S. Army. Last edited by seaneley; 04-08-2015 at 07:28 PM.. |

Nice Nero I have always wanted to know exactly how realistic the father/son being generals so close to each other. I will still treat them as brothers. Besides father/son relationships turn things soap opera-ey and make the father characters too old. Like Destro and Alexander plus age acceleration issues make it sloppy.
I think once you hit any General level you can go up in rank in no time. Generally speaking the rank goes with the job and time in grade has less weight. So you can even skip a grade if say you are the best in your field I believe.

from what I've read though, there are limited numbers of General billets and each General's promotion has to gain Congressional approval.

Yeah I think there is only 57 open general slots in all the US armed forces. I have to find that.
Once you hit Brigadier you are on a time limit towards retirement. All of the Colonels are trying to get those slots too. I wonder how that works for these guys who would be too young to necessarily retire. Plus Hawk has been O-7 for 30 years.

going on Dale Brown's novels (which I admit may be exaggerated), once you get your first star, you have to jockey for further promotions and if the plum assignments aren't available and you can't get another, you're basically forced to retire early!
