Delta used to have an aviation troop (The Army was kind enough to list them as receiving an award for valor before recognizing it's mistake, and deleting the info), but I have no idea if they still do or not. You also have other aviation units like the US Army Flight Concepts Division AKA: Seaspray, and Quasar Talent.

Got a few questions:
Laser-Viper: According to the filecard they're primarily used as spotters for bombs and such. With modern technology, would it be possible to use them as spotters for, say, SAW Vipers or Range-Vipers? Rampart: Trying to find a use for this guy. So basically he shoots down planes? He's a Navy guy, so would he be a useful crew member on the WHALE? Is he only good for shooting down planes, or are boats and tanks fair game, too? What about Backblast? Is he interchangeable with the likes of Zap and Bazooka? Are Scoop and the Techno-Vipers usable for manning the computers back at base? |

my opinions:
Laser-Viper: don't see why you need a laser spotter for a machine-gunner or a wilderness trooper, but if you want to... They'd be better off used to lase targets for HEAT-Vipers if not for air-strikes (which is still needed sometimes) Rampart: in my fan-fic, he's a gunner on the WHALE. I don't see why you can't use him as a general heavy-weapons guy if you want. Backblast is a SAM guy, I have him attached to my heavy weapons/fire support unit, out of a lack of a better idea where to put him. Scoop, if you want. Techno-Vipers are supposed to be engineers and mechanics... |

Laser Vipers I don't know. I would tend to view that weapon pack as more Like a Heavy Machine gun\Anti-Aircraft gunner.
Rampart is just calling for SWCC role. Like the crew\gunner of a Mark V. Shoreline Defender makes no sense. Is that a rating in the Navy? Shore Patrol would make him essentially an MP. Backblast is Anti-Aircraft like Rampart essentially is. Bazooka, Zap, Salvo and Fast Draw are Anti-Tank. The Wolverine is Anti-Tank as well I believe although I have always used it as an Anti-Aircraft vehicle.

The MEU(SOC) & MSPF concept went bye-bye when the active duty Force Recon companies were disestablished, and FR’s Direct Action Platoons were used as the basis for MARSOC. The Deep Recon Platoon guys went over and formed the "D" companies of the division Recon Battalions. But, the Marines found they still needed the capabilities FR brought to the table, and reformed the active duty FR companies as part of the Recon Battalions (before all of the recent budget cuts kicked in, the plan was to bring the FR companies back up to full strength, and break them back off into independent units again). Now MEU's have what's called a Maritime Raid Force (MRF) that performs the same missions as the old MSPF. One of them did a ship takedown mission a few years back, retaking a ship that had been captured by pirates. The Organization of a MSPF fit my Joe-verse so nicely. Maritime Special Purpose Force - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. I think someone needs to update this Wikipedia Page And it might be you DSumner? Welcome to the thread. I was wondering since MARSOC revived the "Raider" Name late last year, if we would see more use of the name in the general public. Maybe this is why its the Maritime Raider Force.

I view the Wolverine as a MLRS mobile artillery unit.

Wait when did that go Bye-Bye?

I was wondering since MARSOC revived the "Raider" Name late last year, if we would see more use of the name in the general public. Maybe this is why its the Maritime Raider Force. When the Corps figured out they needed the capabilities FR had, they also decided they needed a "special operations capable" direct action element within the MEUs and came up with the MRF concept. As far as the "Raider" title goes, that was nothing more than MARSOC lobbying to get the lineage of the WWII Marine Raider Battalions assigned to them. It's got nothing to with the MRF name.

Man. You're a wealth of knowledge. Where have you been? This thread is the oldest on the TanK we could always use another voice of wisdom. Now you're here we may have to rehash old topics and get your input. Like for instance which Joes might be Green Berets? (I'm looking at you Ripcord!)
Obviously there is the world of the 80's when most Filecards were written, the world of today and your personal Joe-verse. Anyway the next question is, of the two Marine forces we are talking about who's the biggest badass. MARSOC raiders or Maritime Raider Force Marines?

Apples and Oranges. MARSOC is at the top of the food chain funding wise, as it works for SOCOM (more money means more training). The MRF works for the MEU commander, and is composed of Marines and Navy personnel drawn from the MEU.

Yeah I would probably add Big Brawler to your list and Recondo. Recoil maybe but something about him screams JTAC to me. Mission Brazil Dial-Tone and Tiger Force Beachhead are Special Forces. And I believe Kamakura is as well. Although I am liking the new Throwdown persona who is as well if I remember correctly.
Rock'n'Roll is one I forgot about. I remember Zuludelta doing a Special Forces Rock'n'Roll and a Tollbooth too.
