Hmm. Well, in the Marvel issue when the Joes bury Gen Flagg (22), they're all dress uniform. Stalker and Snake Eyes are both wearing green berets. Not all the other joes are clearly identifiable (and their ranks change from panel to panel), but Rock n Roll, Clutch, Zap and Snow Job are all clearly wearing garrison caps, and Hawk and two others are wearing peaked caps (I'm going to say it's probably Steeler and a white-looking Doc, based on the glasses). Two other joes are also wearing green berets, but I've never figured out who they are. Probably not Tripwire. And neither is Duke - he's elsewhere in the issue shooting down a Rattler prototype with a .45 (and a little help from Roadblock).

Blue Light was formed after Charlie Beckwith told the Deputy Chief of Staff Ed 'Shy' Meyer that it would take 18 months to 2 years for Delta to be ready for its CT role.
The then head of 5th Group didn't understand why a unit like Delta was needed when SF could fill that capability. There was alot of animosity and both professional and personal rivalry between the two groups. So much so that after Delta was up and running, that allegedly not a single operator with Blue Light tried out for Delta and none of them were asked to. |

I believe so, sort of. As I understand, Blue Light was a temporary stop gap until Delta was mission-capable. I seem to recall seeing a line about wanting doers instead of teachers. Anyway, I believe that the green beret community took some lessons from Blue Light which eventually resulted in a CIF company in each Group. Depending on where in the world an incident occurs, a CIF company could be closer to the scene and so be more responsive than Delta or 6. To add to confusion, Marine Expeditionary Units (SOF Capable) can create ad hoc Maritime Special Purpose Forces for in extremis situations. In short (and having drifted from the original question), there are all sorts of potentially competing ass-kickers looking to give various riff raff and ne'er-do-wells acute cases of lead poisoning. I guess it all comes down to whichever general or admiral gets the first call in to whoever makes the final decision.

Who was on that short list of potential Special Forces guys? Joes who seem to have all the qualities and training of a Green Beret?
confirmed through filecards: Colton Duke Flint Claymore Falcon Dropzone Kamakura in a DDP issue? Then Beachhead and Dial-tone Convention figures are listed as Special Forces. So my list: Stalker ...just fits Snake-Eyes Recondo Ripcord Outback Spirit (Was Action Force Spirit a Green Beret?) Breaker -Project Gamma Vietnam (SF) and 7 languages.

The way I see it, everyone in Tiger Force seems like a good candidate. Roadblock - thought at one stage we agreed he was a maybe Dusty - Language capabilities in Hebrew, Farsi, Arabic and one another Steel Brigade Commander - His FC says Civil Affairs and at least a few years ago in the early days of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Civil Affairs Captains and NCO's were ex-SF. (according to a few books I read recently. I'll track down the source). Storm Shadow - I seem to remember an issue of ARAH where Stalker, SE and Tommy are standing outside the MACV-SOG hq in Saigon where they've all been posted. Rampage - Beach Head's "twin". |

I knew I was not imagining it. Isn't Hawk Delta in the AF continuaty? I like to add Lowlight and Mercer v2 as Delta Guys who came over. There might be a couple more like Rapid-Fire and Super Trooper.

Here's a not-great scan of that picture I mentioned previously. I've labelled the obvious ones. You'll see there are four Green Berets in the picture: Stalker and Snake Eyes are obvious. The other two - maybe Breaker, and possibly Trip Wire (though he seems too clumsy generally to make it through that training). Others who had made appearances in the comic to date: Flash, Grand Slam, Grunt, Short Fuze and Airborne. Short Fuze might be a possible SF weapons sergeant, and his cross training in engineering suggests he's more than your usual mortar guy.
