Yeah, his Rank in ROC was listed as E-5 (Sergeant). With ROC's emphasis on international members, I figured there was a good possibility that he was a Royal Marine... possibly SBS.
I haven't been able to read the new filecard. I'me very interested to do so when it's available. Anyone have a link to a pic?

May have already been said but they changed his name from Nolan A. Macphee to Nolan M. Ligotke. And my wife went to Elyria Catholic in Ohio, his birthplace according to the new filecard.
I think the red parka makes more sense for a rescue guy but would rather that they had given him a more traditional snow/ arctic look. We get so few cold weather guys as it is. And don't even get me started on the shortage of Navy/ Marines/ Coasties. I sponsored a custom contest on another site recently for a cold weather fire team. Okay, so, now that I've read his filecard, I have to ask: What's his job supposed to be? Is he a corpsman, or a rescue swimmer? Neither? And, aside from the in-joke about designing toys, I thought the beginning part of his bio sounded an awful lot like parts of Superman's origin in "Man of Steel".Food for thought I suppose...

I don't have Green Shirts in my Joeverse but more and more I'm thinking I might want to integrate Steel Brigade.
I'm starting to see it more like SHIELD with Steel Brigade being the regular agents and the named Joes being the specialists and super-hero members of SHIELD.

I can understand that approach what with the multi-packs and facelessness of the Steel Brigade, but going back to when I created my character, he wasn't any less skilled than the named characters (nor was there an implication that they were recruits).
It's actually a shame there wasn't some more differentiation for the Steel Brigade characters (in terms of their uniforms - mix 'n match) to make them seem more individual. Anyway as I only have two of them, and will probably only ever pose one at a time, he'll always be IRON DRAGON to (and indeed quite simply) me ;) |

I used to use Steel Brigade as the Joe reserve unit. Made up of specialists and ex Joes who can be activated by Hawk like the comic "Global Frequency".
Nowadays I see them more as the Support element of the Joes. I have a ton of Steel Brigade type figures from the old Hulk toy line and have been army building the ME version. At the moment I have a STEEL Battalion made up of Special Troops Company; * MP Platoon (using the Steel Brigade Tonka Trucks & Checkpoint) * Engineer Platoon (using the Combat Engineer Tonka vehicles) * CBR Recon Platoon * Signals Platoon * Military Intelligence Platoon (Inc Red Zone, Rook) * Medical Platoon Support Company *Supply Platoon *Distribution Platoon *Maintenance Platoon * Motor Transport Platoon * Service Platoon I'd like to add a Force Mobility Company to ferry the Joes overland (GI Joe Train) and oversea (Patrol Boats etc) |

I used Steel Brigade in my fan-fic as a secret GI Joe/CIA joint unit to create safe-houses and equipment caches in unfriendly nations to support Joe covert ops. The network remained under CIA control when the Joes were shut down and when the Joes were reactivated, the network went back to joint control. Four Steel Brigade members have been promoted to the main Joes as a kind of reward for their actions in one story; a Ranger named Firebolt (my intended character name for my SB), a Delta operator named Alpha Dog, a Force Recon Marine named Jarhead and a SEAL named Lone Star.
