Oliver, never knew that about the chaplains.
That being the case, they should have a spot on the Joe team. There's a great line in The Patriot (Mel Gibson's, not Seagals) where the Reverend goes to join the militia and he says: "A shepard must tend his flock and sometimes fight off the wolves."

I still don't like the idea of sending in a chaplain with the Joes without a weapon of any kind, I don't mean to sound rude but it takes up a spot for another specialist for the team. I agree your point on what you wrote earlier, I just know that we don't send any with our special forces teams currently

I can see a Ranger/Chaplain or Airborne/Chaplain, that would work.

But do they get to use a weapon would be my question. As long as they can defend themselves and or other members of the team I would be cool with that.

I think Hasbro was smart to leave any overt references to religion out of the Joe line. Joe fans argue about rolled up sleeves on action figures, the last thing we need is a holy war in the Joe fan community over whether the Joe team's chaplain should have been a priest, a minister, or a rabbi.

Have to wait for Oliver to chime in on just what role the chaplain plays, can they carry a weapon or are they non-aggressors like medics?

That is what Chaplain Assistants do. They protect the chaplain as well as assist in service. Oliver, correct me if I'm wrong, since Chaplains are not suppose to carry a weapon. |

Normally I would agree, but the Chaplains Service is an existing part of the military. But I can see someone bitching and complaining about it.

I believe Chaplains are tasked with shepherding military personnel of all religions. I think they have to receive theological "cross training."

I've always wondered about that. Slip Stream was my favorite Pilot growing up because he came with the Conquest, had a cool name, and wasn't ACE! Isn't Provo where BYU is? I think Slip-Stream was an ROTC graduate, but it doesn't specifically mention where he attended college. I know there are a fair number of LDS Cadets who go to the Air Force Academy. I've known a number of Mormons in Mississippi; always very nice people and upstanding members of the community.
At my house growing up, however, my mother always told us that all the G.I. Joes were Methodist like we were, so we should be like G.I. Joe and be excited to go to Church on Sunday. My mom would have been brilliant at Psy Ops. Even at that age I read Budo's file card and I wasn't fooled... and I knew Clutch wasn't going to worship on SUNDAY. It's funny to me that Joe never had a Chaplain figure, but there are a number of Joes whose secondary Military specialty is "Chaplain's Assistant". And the Original Pitt was so tied to the "Chaplain's Assistant School's Motor Pool". Still no Chaplain for the Joes. I always thought a good code name for a Chaplain would be: Shepard. Quote:

Chaplain's Assistants make more sense since from my understanding...they get a broad training in all religions and sects, then specializes in what ever religion they believe in. The military try to match religions but in those cases when they can't (open positions, emergencies etc.) the assisant can be assign to anyone. Plus as I've said, according to a fellow soldier I knew who had changed from that MOS to Combat Medic, their main task in combat settings was to be the one who shot back since the Chaplain wasn't allowed to carry a gun.
