I think the problem with Torpedo is that his action figure / uniform is not conducive to any non-maritime environments (at least in the ARAH era). If Larry had used him outside of his uniform like putting him in camo green or civvies he wouldn't be instantly recognizable to the reader/fan.
I think we all remember him fighting on land with his spear gun, scuba gear and fins ;) |

I'll have to re read my marvel line and see. I have terrible memories of Torpedo running around the swamp with tripwire and Mutt in the Snake Eyes back story, issue 26 & 27. He was portrayed in a pretty dooky way in what was a pretty awesome comic. I realize that Junkyard sub plot was supposed to be somewhat humorous against the more series Vietnam story Stalker was telling but I would have liked to have seen more versions of Torpedo other than the scuba suit, Something black ops ready. I guess they were trying to push the toys more than anything. Here's to hoping for an awesome Torpedo and Airborne from Sideshow in the future.

Yeah, the figure ruined it. I hated that, for the longest time, we only got SEaLs as divers.

Wet Suit and Torpedo ran a black op on Cobra Island in yearbook 4 (or 3) and they both wore normal outfits, not scuba gear.
Wet Suit also appeared in a Special Missions story (Ambush!) in non-diver gear. I'm pretty sure it was his look in those two stories which influenced the Special Mission Brazil II figure from the con set. leaving aside all the ninja shite, the top 10 ARAH Joe badasses are surely: Falcon Wet Suit Torpedo Flint Duke Tracker Beach Head Stalker Big Ben Skymate (although not necessarily in that order) |

Those issues were all DDP issues.

no, Marvel ones. I've never read a DDP comic.
the Yearbook story is the one with the Oktober Guard where the Joes capture the Mamba the recon team later uses to insert on to Cobra Island before the civil war and the SM story is the one where Anderson the CIA spook first appeared and set them up to fail the mission, because it was a con to get corrupt computer chips taken to Moscow. |

Yeah I said Special Missions but It was the yearbook. I think that was the first sneak peek to the Special missions comics.
Damn Until you mentioned Big Ben and Skymate I thought I had it all figured out. I was trying to make what I think is the Joes top ten Badasses based on filecards/previous unit Pedigree, coupled with Comic book extras. (Cartoons do not count.) Snake-Eyes Torpedo Falcon Flint Duke Stalker Gung-Ho Leatherneck Beachhead Wet-Suit Big Ben could easily replace anyone on this list. I'm not as up to speed with Australian SAS with Skymate. Claymore should be on this list as well. then there is Lowlight who we assume is Delta.

(although not necessarily in that order) I enjoyed and agree with the bulk of your list but for my own list I would find a spot for Airborne at the expense of one of the later joes. Next to Torpdeo I feel that Airborne is the next most often over looked as a Joes bada$$! |
