Read the General's Daughter and the sequal Up Country. Paul Brenner (I think that's the name) is CID. It's fiction, but it's good stuff. Demille (the author) was a Lt. in the army.

I hope the book was better than Travolta's movie! I really did not like this film. It seems like everything he does after Pulp Fiction gets worse and worse.

For a lot of reasons (small references in the comic), I always understood G.I. Joe to be Hama's version of Delta Force. In other words, I don't think there is a Delta Force in Larry Hama's universe; I think it's just G.I. Joe. There are a lot of similarities. Joe is referred to as "Special Forces Operational Detachment ALPHA" Delta Force's official title is "Special Forces Operational Detachment DELTA". There are other references as well. That's just my understanding.
I think I remember seeing the Joes refered to as "Task Force Delta"

MUCH MUCH MUCH Better. I highly reccommend Demille. Big fan of his books. Edit: HIs John Correy novels (Plum Island, Lion's Game, Nightfall and Wildfire) are excellant books. John Correy is a great fictional character.

I do know this: Rank gets really weird in CID. They fiddle with your file so that if someone looks you up, your cover stays intact. Whatever rank you need for the mission, they just give it to you, and it will change for the next mission. If they need a Private to go through basic to investigate a Drill Instructor, the CID agent's file will say he's a E-1. If on his next assignment, he needs to be a Major to investigate an officer, his file will say he's a Major with 15 years in service. The actual files on those guys are highly classified. Usually, my Dad says it's Warrant Officers. It's easier for them to pass as either Officers or NCO's because they walk in both worlds and know all the regs for both... weird stuff like uniform regs and things like that. Intel loves to get CID guys for their missions because the CID guys get experience all the time in Undercover ops. They're the best in the Army at Undercover ops, so Intel is usually glad to use them.
