Mauraders is the only sub team I never bought any of. Pre- modern era. But more because I still had all the figures in pretty good shape from their original releases rather than the shitty paint job. Although the Equalizer is just plain badass if you ask me.

I really can't think of any good reason other than he may be Forward Observer qualified and thus chose those red chevrons when picking his outfit. paying homage to his ancestry and his home unit

That is friggin excellent. What headsculpt is that? I've seen a few awesome POC updates for Budo but always got outbid.
Although the upcoming Budo looks cool I was hoping for something more Militarily realistic. I'm hoping some of his gear is removeable. For me it's like Dress Blues Gung-Ho. Gung-Ho is my favorite Joe and then to put him in the Suit totally took away from the playability of the figure. All I could have him do was Guard Duty. How do you feel about the upcoming Budo Neuspeaq?

I Love it!!! Will love it more after I 'tweek' the fig a bit tho . Hasbro made my day with that offering; the cancelled bald headed POC one was LAME...
Thanks for the positive feedback gentlemen

I will post my version of him wearing his Great Grandfather's ancestral armor soon; I'm hoping he'll be well received.

Speaking of Spirit, I passed through Taos, NM a few days ago. It wasn't quite what I was expecting. It's a very prosperous little resort town in the evergreen mountains near the Rio Grande where people go to relax, hike, ski, and shop. I asked around and many shop owners said that after WWII a lot of veterans returned to build the town into what it is today. Because of Hama's description of Spirit's family being "so far below the poverty line," I half expected to see a town much like Chinle, AZ where some people get buy on very little and horses roam the streets the way dogs do in some eastern neighborhoods. I also wonder if Hama actually intended Spirit to be from the Taos Pueblo, north of Taos, and not the town itself. If so, then Spirit would most likely be a Tiwa Indian and is probably fluent in Spanish.
His uniform definitely reflects that of the old cavalry scouts, and Taos was also a place where Kit Carson made his home. Perhaps Spirit is the descendent of one of Carson's famous scouts. |
