Yeah I was kind've thinking CSM too. Because if he were to be an Officer, he'd have to go to West Point. :P
Speaking of Officers, I guess Psyche-Out was automatically made a commisioned Officer since he's a University grad with a Ph.D?

I think you mean SGM. Also an E-9. You are only suppose to have one CSM per command, but I think you can have multiple SGMs.

A commission as an Officer in ANY branch of the service comes through 1 of 4 ways...
1. Service Academy 2. ROTC at University/College level (high school ROTC doesn't count). 3. OCS (or equivalent... I think the Air Force calls in OTC or something) 4. Direct Commission - this is for professions like Doctors, JAG Lawyers and Chaplains. These guys have extra academic credentials, and they are usually commissioned as Captains. It doesn't happen for Infantry, Artillery, Intelligence, etc. Battlefield Commission - this doesn't happen anymore. It hasn't happened since Vietnam. Officers are now required to have a bachelor's degree. No one has gotten a battlefield commission in over 40 years. It's a thing of the past. Once you're an Officer, it matters very little how you got there. All that really matters is how you perform. Of course there are some benefits to going through the Academy: the training is great, you know a ton of other people, the alumni network, etc. But if an Officer does a good job, it doesn't matter how he got there. How do I know? I'm a former Army Officer. All Chaplains are Officers. In the episode in question, the fact that Shipwreck is in the Navy is what makes it funny. Beach-Head even comments on it. He says something like, "Shipwreck's not even in the Army!" The point is that Mindbender had rigged the computer and they had all been promoted to "colonel". It's hilarious. The fact that Shipwreck is in the Navy isn't a "mistake"; it's a joke. Limited duty officer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joes who have made it to E-9 in one form or other: Altitude Duke Stalker Gung-Ho Mercer V2 Rock 'n' Roll (Sonic) Beachhead Everyone else I like to rank higher I make E-8 if they are really overdue and started E-6 or above. Like Repeater or Leatherneck Known E-8s (shown in Comics or Filecards) Snake Eyes Scarlett Big Brawler Shipwreck Doubleblast Airwave Mace Skydive Drop-Zone ROC Ripcord Tollbooth's Rank insignia on the figure Dojo Storm Shadow I'm sure there is more. As far as going to College and then becoming an Officer that is not always the case. But I think typically Doctors and Lawyers get commissions. Not sure about Engineer types. Tollbooth, Grand-Slam and Hardrive all MIT grads are enlisted, and then Kickstart, a Caltech grad, is also enlisted.

Maybe someone can answer this. Who gets to attend HALO training? Anyone who wants to? Only Spec Ops guys? I mean the typical Airborne trooper shouldn't have to make a HALO jump, so who really gets to go? I'm thinking about Ripcord here.

You usually have to be in a job( billet) that requires that skill. All Air Force PJs and CCTs( so the are ready to attach to any SOF unit, All Navy SEALs( as part of the requirement to get the Trident),selected SWCCs and Navy EOD, MARSOC Marines, some Recon Marines, Green Berets on jump teams, Rangers with the LRSU. You also have people that are attached to these units that may go.

Nice. Well if Ripcord is Army that should make him at least a Ranger, but I'm trying to see if there may be more secrets?
Obviously I doubt an E-4 would be a Green Beret, but I figure it may be assumed that most of the Army Joes could have easily been picked up by Green Berets, or Delta. I know there is the 18X program but I'm curious how many Soldiers make it all the was through to be Special Forces through that program? You figure ROC Ripcord is Green Beret because he is hanging with DUKE. THey wouldn't know each other so closely if they were not in the same unit.

I once edited a page on the GI Joe wiki, to clear up some cock-ups regarding which service branch Joes are from and some snot undid it.
so stuff them. |

Sometimes the original ARAH literature reminds me of that line from the movie Stripes: "Our newest soldiers with our newest equipment". You have a bunch of E-4s and E-5s with a 2nd LT and a Colonel. Did Steeler even get a deployment in before joining the Joes? My Dad graduated Signals School as an Spc-4 and went to OCS before he got sent on his deployment to Vietnam. Of course trying to make a toy line fit the real military has left with all of these debates on character qualifications. We expect them to be more experienced than their filecards sometimes indicate. Here's link to a thread on Socnet that discusses 18X retention. 18X Program - SOCNET: The Special Operations Community Network
