Takedown, I have to agree with you that the physics of making a Sky Hawk or a SHARC "fly" just don't really work. Look at the position of the engines on a Sky Hawk-how do they get fuel and how is it they don't burn through the stabilizers? Now, don't get me wrong, I do like the Sky Hawk, it just doesn't make sense. Same with the SHARC-it's just not aerodynamic enough to fly. So, after watching a documentary on the Military Channel one night, I decided that, in my 'verse, they make more sense as ground effect vehicles, of a sort. The SHARC doesn't fly at an altitude like a regular aircraft, but it can "fly" just above the surface of the water. And, I noticed the Sky Hawks were used in this way in "The Revenge of Cobra" miniseries. Food for thought, anyway,

How does a helicopter generate enough lift?

Basically it tears apart the rules of space and time with it's rotors and flies by magic.

Rotor blades are essentially airfoils that create lift as they spin. The angle of attack of individual blades change to move the ship forward or any other direction. But once the skyhawk's engines rotate laterally there's no more vertical thrust and since there are no wings and no rotor it would need something to keep it aloft, to counter gravity, but it has nothing but a horizontal stabilizer which actually creates negative lift to counter balance the positive lift of wings, so an airplane needs both of these elements. Try to find one without them and I'll show you a flying brick. ;)

Fairy dust? I guess I have to suspend belief and pretend it functions with some sort of anti-gravitational propulsion system.

I have an easier time accepting the original Sky Hawk is able to fly than the updated ghost Hawk. The newer one is too front heavy, and if the engines go fully horizontal it'll blast off it's own tail fins.
