i'm intrigued my some people using non Joes in their Joe teams. It'd never occur to me to use the A-Team or Marvel characers in GI Joe.
outside of the world of Joe/AF/Heroic Commandos/Action Commandos about the only characters i'd think of being Joes would be Soap, Price, Gaz, Ghost, Roach, Walcroft, Griffin, Griggs, Ramirez, Foley, Dunn, Marcus Burns, Frost, Sandman, Truck and Grinch. oh, and poor Jackson and poor PFC Allen |

Where's Tyroc? He uses everyone you could Imagine and I've gotten some great ideas from him for extra figures.
I use those A-team figures. I only wish they had better paint apps. I use some of the Mortal Kombat ninjas. I wish the Street Fighter figures were better but they suck. But I heavily incorporate Marvel Universe. I sometimes have to pick and chose the less superheroey characters, ie Captain Britain and Union Jack, Winter Soldier are OK. The Thing not so much. but in my verse first there was Hydra which is where the Red Shadows came from and the Skull Squad (the original Plague) then Cobra came from there. I'd like to get my hands on some of the Soap and Mactavish customs I've seen cropping up recently.

Been doing alot of background reading lately. At the moment I'm reading Duncan Falconer's "First Into Action - A Dramatic Personal Account of Life in the SBS". Very good book so far. It starts with his selection into the Royal Marine Commandos then straight into his selection for the Special Boat Service. It doesn't give much info about organization etc but alot of details about operations in Northern Ireland and detailed training. He talks at length about his training in infiltration and re-entry via submersibles which is very enlightening. The part I'm up to is his selection into the 14th Intelligence Detachment (aka "The Det") which operated against the IRA and has evolved into both the fabled "E Squadron" and the Special Reconnaissance Regiment which is analogous with the US Intelligence Support Activity (USAISA). It's very interesting because the E Squadron which have been reported to be operating all over the Middle East (especially in Libya before Gaddaffi fell) is kind of how I see the Joes used during Hama's Special Mission comics. That is, limited direct action, special reconnaissance and delivery and retrieval of Intel Agents. It's understood that the Squadron is made up of veterans from the SAS, SBS, SRR and Special Forces Support Group (1 Para, Royal Marine Commandos, RAF etc)and are under the administrative control of UK Special Forces but under the operational control of the UK Secret Intelligence Service (SIS). I've also read articles about a similar group operating in the US. The Defense Intelligence Agency formed a new group called the Defense Clandestine Service late last year and I've read rumors of them having their own Special Activities Office. Under ADCON of JSOC but OPCON of the DIA DCS. This is almost exactly what I've always envisioned the Joes to be (barring the Fighter Jets and Aircraft Carriers). I know that Oliver's Joe team as DIA assets and this information really bares this idea out. I'm tinkering with my Organization (again). I see Colton as the head of the DIA (a 3 Star post), a Civilian Director for the DCS (I'm using Director Medina from the Devil's Due comics) and Hawk as the Head of the Special Activities Office. |

SBS see the SAS as a bunch of Hollywood primadonna types, according to something i read. they don't like the sass getting the credit and the funding, but prefer the fact that they - SBS - just get the job done.

I'm looking for a 2iC for my infantry Joes- Grunt, Footloose, Hitn Run, Spearhead, etc. Grid Iron is the lead. Any obscure Lt.'s or WOs I'm missing?

Falcon? But I assume you have him somewhere else. Lt. Stone (extreme), Lt. Stone (Sigma 6), Lt. Barrel-Roll, Skip (Action Force), Super Trooper. I don't have a lot of other choices

Love the new Eaglehawk, though not crazy about the name. Wonder why they didn't choose something like Desert Hawk. Stoked that we are getting Kwinn as well. Great surprise.

I dont really know anything about either of the Stones, but I use Sgt Stone from RoC on my Special Forces team. I'll have to read up on the other two. Thanks for the suggestions! Edit: I'll use Extreme Stone for my USMC squad and Sigma Stone for my SAS/ SBS guys. So I still need somebody for my Joe infantry. Last edited by Topside; 02-10-2013 at 12:29 AM.. |
