The maths you guys were discussing for miles to kilometres is off.
1 statute mile is 1,609 metres. a statute mile being the British Imperial mile. 24km is 24,000 metres. divide that by 1,609 metres gives you 14.9 miles. and, yes, i really did just sign up to tell you that. I've been lurking and reading bits and pieces of this thread (well,i read most of the first 150 pages...) for a week or two after finding it during a google search. |

Apparently it was the other way around, we had a Footloose who was significantly different to the one you had over there in terms of training/background and temperament (as shown in the UK Marvel comics and the filecard). When the US Footloose appeared in the US Marvel reprints which were part of the UK Action Force comic, and showed very different behaviour to our UK Footloose, they simply renamed him in the reprint. I must admit I never noticed that and unfortunately the US Marvel reprints (with any re-wording) aren't available on BftB.
I'm not sure what the best approach is here. I think it's fair enough to rename our UK Footloose as Long Slide, but how to fit in e.g. Flint, Beach Head, Outback and Hit and Run who all also differ significantly from the US characters (and would all be SAS) I don't know. Good calls. Not sure about Lt. Dolphin's background, I'll have to do some more digging. Beaver was Canadian SoF then came to the SAS as one of their boat specialists (waterborne sabotage). Barracuda is ex French Foreign Legion, and came to the SAS (and is dressed in a wetsuit!) Stakeout is another SAS member who's primarily boat focused as his primary speciality is Seaborne Assault. I think it would be fair to place those three as members of either the SBS or SAS Boat troop. As for other members of the SAS: Quickfire came from GSG9 to the SAS and there's also Sparrowhawk, who is a parachutist (by figure), apparently from the Belgian parachute display team and ex-Air Force. I'd be tempted to stick him in as a HALO/HAHO specialist, not sure whether his backstory works though as I know nothing of the Belgian military. For UK/AF Outback, I'm thinking of calling him either "Merlin" or "Wizard". The name Outback really does make a lot of sense for an Australian, but in my Joeverse, I grew up with Stuart Selkirk from Wyoming.
But, as an homage to Australia, I'd like to give AF Outback a name that fits an Australian... an Australian with a big white beard. So, since Australia is often called "OZ" I thought of "Wizard". And when I thought of "Wizard" and with the beard I thought of "Merlin"... I also thought of "Dumbledore" and "Gandalf", but those didn't seem as fitting. What do y'all think of "Merlin" or "Wizard" for AF Outback? For AF Beach-Head, I need some help. I ws thinking about "Boomerang" but he's NZ SAS, and I didn't know if a Boomerang is native to NZ or if it's just an Australian thing. Any other suggestions for a NZ commando would be welcome. I am considering the name "Griffin" because the NZSAS was involved with an Operation Griffin in 1998, and the Griffin has the head of an eagle... maybe like the famous HAAST Eagle of NZ, and because AF Beach-Head was a sniper. Same problem for UK/AF Hit & Run... any suggestions would be very much appreciated. I'm leaning toward "Badger" For Aussie names, Jackeroo, Dingo and Digger were discarded names for Skymate. You could also use 'Tagger' (a role in their Aussie Rules sport, basically the guy who clobbers the opposition), 'Woomera' (Aboriginal spear-thrower weapon), 'Boomerang', or 'ANZAC' from the Australia/New Zealand Army Corps of WW2... Or, you can just make up any old name and not worry about particular nationalities. Last edited by CapBritain; 01-31-2013 at 12:48 PM.. |

SO far I've added Eagle, Skip, Dolphin, Action man, Natalie, Quarrel Jammer, Beaver. I'm only looking at ME articulation so most are cu stoms or renames but there are so many versions of the Snake -eyes I can repurpose them as AF SAS guys. Can someone give me a run down of the AF SAS guys? Sparrowhawk, Hunter, Stake -Out Eagle, Blades. Any more?
