Hey guys I'm tweaking my ODA Team and looking for some suggestions (stuck on medics). Here's what I've got so far:
Claymore (O3), 18A Detachment Commander Falcon (02), 180A Assistant Detachment Commander Duke (E8), 18Z Operations Sergeant Snake Eyes (E8), 18F Assistant Operations & Intelligence Sergeant Crossfire (E7), 18B Weapons Sergeant Mirage (E6), 18B Weapons Sergeant Flint (E6), 18C Engineer Sergeant Sgt Stone (E5), 18C Engineer Sergeant 18D Medical Sergeant 18D Medical Sergeant Dial-Tone (E4), 18E Communications Sergeant Breaker (E4), 18E Communications Sergeant I demoted Flint since I have Falcon in the 180A slot. And I know that Crossfire and Mirage aren't confirmed SF but after reading available info on them I liked them best for those slots. I suppose you are only using guys you have?
The only medics the Joe's have: Doc Lifeline Stretcher Airborne (sky patrol) Med alert STALKER Hard -Drive

Of all specialties, the Joes really lack medics. You might be able to use Barbecue as a medic, since firefighters are often cross trained as EMTs. Otherwise, you'll have to make up your own. And, I don't count the faux "Lifeline" and Sideswipe released in the 2000's. There should at least be a PJ and a Navy corpsman on the roster.

Even counting the two Docs, two Lifelines, Stretcher, Sideswipe and Med Alert there's not a whole lot to work with. Falcon's SMS is Medic so I could use one of the 18D slots for another job. I thought about leaving Snake Eyes as Assistant Operations Sergeant and making Big Brawler Intelligence Sergeant. Was also considering putting Stalker on this team but I decided I wanted to keep him with the other Rangers. After looking at my Ranger's roster I'm thinking I might come up with a second ODA using those guys: 18A- Rapid Fire 180A- Super Trooper 18Z- Stalker 18F- Beach Head 18B- Repeater 18B- Dart 18C- Tunnel Rat 18C- Rampage 18D- Sidetrack 18D- 18E- Sneak Peek 18E- Recoil |

I use Lifeline as a PJ, just seems to fit for some reason. I created a custom PJ named Medivac as well.
The Joes need medics and they need communications officers as well. Breaker Dial-Tone Dee-Jay I have a custom one called Windtalker, but still needs to be more. |

Yeah, they're pretty short on commo specialists as well. Arguably, you could use Mainframe and Scoop for comms, plus there's Airwave from Sky Patrol and Bombstrike.

How much need is there for comms specialist in SoF units? Presumably the members would all be more than proficient with comms devices, etc., and with modern equipment there's little to go wrong (or be fixable if it does) nor to setup using arcane RF theory?
What would a comms specialist in the modern army/etc. do? |

What would a comms specialist in the modern army/etc. do? I guess what bugs me is the entertainment business is trying to force us to think that 4 characters is enough for a crew. In Transformers, they widen the scope of a science officer so much it takes half the crew and shoves them out of an airlock. Science Officer now includes Medic/Doc, Intel, comms, science and engineer. I guess I like my crew to be about 6-9 characters Star Trek kinda ruined me with how big a crew should be. So anyway in my Transformers Ready Guard fanfic there are 9 positions: Command, Ops, Intel, Medic, SAR, Security, Scout, sea or Air support then finally a Comms & Tech Trooper. But enough rambling. How I explained the Comms guys in my 'verse is, the military keeps the communication position to preserve the chain of command.

I would guess the only thing you would need a comms guy to do is call in airstrikes. I too have a Combat Controller codenamed Airstrike and I use Jammer as one as well.
