I don't think the ranks matter too much. There only so many officers in the Joe verse and even fewer at that staff officer level. Depending on what those staff positions signify it could be a major or above.

Thanks for the comments guys
Loose, most but not all the support personnel will eventually migrate to the Joes. I chose Borovia because in my verse it'll be analogous with Bosnia. The conflict between the Upper and Lower Borovians (Christian vs Muslim ?), the taking of the US embassy by the Borovian Liberation Front in Origins # 8, will all play a role. Also, it was said somewhere that Borovia borders Siberia and Russia to the East and Austria to the north. That way, I can use the October Guard as Russia will be invested in stability operations in a country so close to them. |

Hannibal would have been a lt-colonel in Vietnam from the original series, or in one of the Gulf Wars from the current movie, while Eagle was a Captain in the early 80s. I suppose that even if one uses the Vietnam timeline, Hannibal has been out of the service for a long time in between, so the two may well converge in rank and Eagle head higher. |

Ok Tyroc now I had to go back and sort through your expanded post. I like the use of Guile. I was pretty upset with the jazware crap they made recently but an extra Duke as Guile would work. Did you have him as Air Force? I take it with these set ups the named Joe's are just the leadership of the units they are tied to?
This is just your strict Joe only force? I was thinking with your Civil Affairs guys you can throw in Hannibal and the rest of the A-team. Maybe ninja force guys as well. It's one of those roles the Joe's don't have many specialists. I like the Borovia set up to tie in the Oktober Guard but I don't know how a country can border Siberia and Austria at the same time but some place like Moldova seems like the perfect location or any of the traditional regions in that area. Or did you mean Serbia?

Or did you mean Serbia? The CA Company hasn't been manned yet but will probably be staffed with comic and cartoon only characters. I remember there was a friend of Thunder's, Spencer Murphy who was ran a ranch. He'll be reimagined as a CA veterinary specialist. Kind of along those lines. Guile is Air Force and a Special Tactics CO. I'd like to use the Street Fighter characters to man the Special Tactics Operations Center (a C&C element for STT). |

Yes, I'm late to the party, but I wanted to add my own conjecture regarding Pathfinder, Ambush and Psyche-Out, three of my favourites, plus a little about Sub-Zero.
Ambush: Yeah, he is a PFC, and I think it's the rank one has to be in order to be considered for the Joe team. After all, I think that's the rank that the Greenshirts are(and the random Joe troopers you see on the cartoons). Greenshirts can be put on missions, it's how they gain experience for promotions. They also have to earn their permanent code-names. Perhaps a permanent code-name comes with a promotion, but it appears Ambush may be an exception to that rule. I guess his superiors saw that his talents for hiding and camoflaging himself were better than others. Regarding how he wasn't found for three days when he was ten, I doubt its because of any mental slowness. Someone mentioned a mean stepfather, but my theory is an alcoholic father who gets abusive when drunk. Sometimes physically abusive. Whenever his father got like his, that's when Ambush would hide away, and learned he was good at it. Then that particular neighborhood game of hide-and-seek was an opportunity for him to get his father to realize what the alcohol makes him do and to re-evaluate whats more important, the booze, or his family. Then there's Evy. She probably found him before the National Guard got alerted to him being missing, but Ambush likely made her promise not to tell anyone. She was also his BFF, but then when they were teenagers, Ambush fell in love with her, but was afraid to tell her. And Sidetrack is his separated-at-birth twin brother :P. Or, his father is the identical twin of Ambush's father. Cousins whose parents are indentical twins share similar amounts of DNA, as siblings from one set of parents. Hey, anything's possible. Pathfinder: I like how some of you came up with the idea of him possibly being a Ranger. I can believe it. In another thread, someone thought he might've served in Vietnam. That would only be possible if he was born before 1954, since the Vietnam war didn't end until 1974(you can correct me if I'm wrong about that year). And since his father was over in Korea, Pathfinder would've had to have been conceived before 1950. However, he didn't look forty on the show, so I think he was conceived, then born after his father got home. I'd put his birth year between 1954-1960. That would make it a slight possibility for him to have served on the tail-end of the Vietnam war if his birth year is 1954, 1955 or 1956(particularly 1956 since he enlisted in the Army at eighteen). Pathfinder is most likely a 3rd generation American. Even though his surname is Iannotti, there's been no evidence of him knowing how to speak Italian. On his second filecard, it mentions that he spent a week out in the Everglades when he was nine. Obviously his father put a great deal of trust in that he learned everything he was taught about survival well, and I also think Pathfinder was very likely, a member of the Boy Scouts. And although he loves the outdoors, he hates bugs(especially mosquitos!), and is allergic to snakes. Which totally begs the question, if he's allergic to snakes, shouldn't he be allergic to Cobra Commander? Psyche-Out: Someone mentioned he went to UC Berkeley after enlisting. But on his first filecard, it says he enlisted after completing his Ph.D. He was immediately sent to Fort Bragg. Now, is Fort Bragg in NC? I saw another one on a map of Cali. In the comics, he shows an aptitude towards profiling, which means he studied forensic psychology. If he hadn't been a Joe, I think he'd make a great FBI profiler. Can you imagine him tracking down serial killers? That would be bad-ass. Also, in European Missions, he brings up something called Primal Scream Therapy, which suggests he's familiar with Arthur Janov. And, he probably listens to Tears For Fears. A lot of their early songs are based around Arthur Janov's writings. Sub-Zero: Interesting character. Legendary temper. But I don't think it's because of his hatred of cold weather. No, it's something deeper than that. I like to think that he is a Military brat. His father and mother are both in the service, and as a result, they had to move around a lot. This had an effect on Sub-Zero being able to make long-lasting friendships. And when he was a teenager, it made it especially hard to have a relationships with girls. Over time, Sub-Zero learned to keep himself from getting too close to anyone, and only projecting an exterior that's as icy as his specialty. Blizzard reportedly can't stand him, and yet his personality and background are similar to Sub-Zero. That, Sub-Zero hates what cold weather does to his genitals. :P Same with Blizzard. Well, that's all for now. Whew!
