In the Marvel comics didn't the Joes wear uniforms with their code name instead of their last name & G.I. Joe instead of what branch they were in?
Later when Snake-Eyes visited Scarlett in the hospital didn't he have something on his uniform that said G.I. Joe? I know one of the MPs guarding her room said something along the lines of he didn't want to mess w/ Snake-Eyes b/c of his ribbons/medals. Need to dig these issues out. The joe's uniform were around issue #37 when Ripcord meets Bongo. The Snake-Eyes was when Scarlett was in a Coma #93-104(?) #108 for the return of SE from his mission to Borovia (?) and visit to hospital. He does have a GI Joe patch at the top of his left arm (rainbow shaped) as well as various other patches, which are clear enough to be identified (if I knew what they should look like - anyone have a link to a patch ID site/page?) The exchange was an MP saying: "Hold it up sergeant! This is now a restricted area! You got any authorisation to be here? Let's see your orders and your pass", to which the older MP of the pair guarding the room responds: "You let the sergeant pass, young troop!" "Can't you read his 'Fruit salad?' The man has a CIB, a Silver Star and more Purple Hearts than they make additional awards for!" "They say them 'chest goodies' and 50c will buy you a cup of coffee, but as long as I'm around it means the man gets respect, hear?" To which the younger MP responds: "I hear you" |

In issue #48, the Joes are shown in the Pit wearing khakis with their "fruit salads" on display. However, you can't make out any of their nametags.

Well, the ROC uniform wasn't great. The pattern was bad, and it just wasn't practical at all, nor did it really pay homage in any way to the old RAH uniforms... so that got people angry.
I don't know about berets. The Joes are Spec Ops... mostly, those guys just like wearing soft covers with the exception of Rangers and Green Berets... but those guys wear soft covers in the field. This question of a garrison uniform was what prompted my Halloween costume last year: What would a G.I. Joe uniform look like? How would it honor the fact that it's a unit that's comprised of all the branches of service?

Actually Special Operations Forces (SOF) wear a wide number of uniforms, depending on the mission, the terrain, etc. As far as head gear goes, it's also going to mission dependent. But, if shooting is going to be involved, odds are pretty good they're going to be wearing a helmet. But since we're talking about a comic book/cartoon/toy, just roll with whatever looks cool in the story. I'd say the individual Joes would wear their parent service head gear, or some variation of it.
Take some time to read this thread. It'll save you some time.

Don't know if anyone has yet to chime in with this tidbit:
Scoop is based on television journalist Mike Leonard. Scoop's File Name is Leonard Michaels. I also just realized that this thread is four years old. Holy mackeral. It was funny, 'cause I just kept reading for hours, page after page, and I never got bored with it (even with all the Chaplain stuff-jk, jk), then I realized that I still had aboot 1,000 pages to read before I got to the last page. Anyhoo, I don't think that I have ever come across a more well researched or well written thread before. No one really seems to be bashing anyone else's opinions or making fun of grammatical errors, or anything along those lines. Behavior like that is what generally keeps me away from message boards, and keeps me a "lurker" (I don't know if this is the proper term for someone who enjoys reading on message boards, but rarely participates in them. The term may be "troll.") This is what a message board is all aboot. People sharing opinions and information with one another. Love it. Some day I will read all one thousand+ pages of this just because it is very informative and entertaining, and now I want to re-read all the vintage File Cards, just to find funny/cool things aboot all my favorite characters. Thanks to you all for continuing this thread. Last edited by darthschroeder; 09-24-2012 at 02:44 AM.. Reason: Startling Realization |

Feel free to ask anything. We've gone through so many filecards it sometimes hard to find new secrets. But sometimes a new set of eyes helps see things differently plus I love rehashing old topics. I would say the one thing that has kept it together is our focus on what is considered Canon and as close to a real military unit vs. what is cartoons and everything else: but we all have our own joeverses and we sometimes borrow ideas from each other or have slowly transformed our joeverses to fit a more realistic and
likely story.
