I'm thinking more along the lines of that tank thing that came with RoC Ripcord. An added feature for the kids to play with.

Nice Idea Troy, I wonder why no one thought of it already. Maybe it could be along the same lines as the Deluxe figures we see if the drones get that big. I can't imagine it can be any more expensive than the spring weapons that suck for the most part.
Almost every toy brand has something like this. The Star Wars ones look well done as far as the game concept goes, although I've never played it, but the bios remind me of Transformers bios. I can see a transformers crossover here as well. (Limited edition convention\comic-con type thing) Drone Wars sounds awesome! Don't change it. It's simple although Lucas might not like it.

YOJOE.COM | Ripcord
This thing? I never even bought that Ripcord. It looks pretty good. Almost as good as a PAC-RAT. If they incentivised these Drone type things I'm sure they could attract some attention, but I still think a Cartoon will go the farthest.

Yeah, that thing.
Star Wars has the card game, but I'm thinking the addition of the drones would help get the kids attention more. They seem to like the physical aspect of the "battles" with beyblade and bakugan. So the drones would add that to it. The filecards would double as file and stat cards. They'd give background/training info like they used to, and have the game stats as well. I came up with the rules last night and started writing the stories, lol. I'm thinking of posting the game rules and doing the stories and at the end of each story giving a game "piece". The stats for the different characters. Added lots of strategy and wrinkles to it last night, adding in a more Joe feel. Each side (Joe and Cobra, can play 2 or more to a side, or just one on one) has a total health number. That dictates how many pieces you can have on the board, how you arrive at that number is up to you. Could do 4 high health pieces or 10 smaller health or whatever combination. The "trick" is that you need transports to get the pieces onto their first positions on the field. A heavy transport can hold more pieces but limited in where can start. A faster transport will hold fewer pieces but allow you to start further into the battlefield. Pieces can move. You can plant bombs, disarm bombs. And not all characters will have an associated drones. Non-drone characters will have effects. Scarlett, for example, when her effect is played reads something like this: "Learns intelligence on selected Cobra drone. Attacks gain +5 damage due to discovered weakness in armor plating." Cobra's troop drones are weaker overall, but allowed to have more on the playing field (trying to duplicate the Cobra army) and you can determine if the damage gets applied to one or spread out over the squad. Most of Cobra's unique characters would be effects (like Scarlett above). Trying to incorporate everything: figures, vehicles, etc..

Sounds kinda fun. Like a hybrid between an RPG and a board game.
Are the stories going to illustrate why some characters have certain skills or stats? Last edited by Tanksmasher; 01-12-2012 at 10:59 PM.. |

Maybe. If can work a game ability into the stories in a way that makes sense.

Yeah, Troynos, A great idea.
Last Saturday, I was staring at Heroclix at a local game shop and thinking they need to come out with a Heroclix for GI JOE or a generic military style game. All set up to play, pre-made, pre-painted game pieces. So after reading your ideas Troynos, I've came up with the best way "Heroclix GI JOE" would work. GI JOE in this format should be vehicles only, for "army building". Most consumers would have a stopping point with characters. Because most would be fed up with too many character duplicates. But with vehicles only, the purchasing would be limitless. They could make the different vehicle paint schemes too. Tiger Force, Night Force, Python Patrol, Dreadnoks, Slaughters Marauders, Sky Patrol, etc. The line would consist of 1980's JOE & Cobra vehicles up until today's 30th Anniversary vehicles, including spytroops, Sigma 6, and any other GI JOE line. Also, it would be the best way to finally get the vehicles we want... Tomahawks, WHALES, Vamps, MOBATS, Conquest X-30's, Rattlers, Slugger, Toss'n Cross, Snowcats, Havoc's, Dragonfly's, Skystrikers, Night Ravens, Tactical Battle Platforms, Terrordromes, GI Joe bases. They could also have a "Deluxe" class sets for 10-20 dollars the Cobra's Helo-carrier, the USS JANE and the USS FLAGG. Then the supreme sets class for 25-35 dollars the Main Cobra Base and the Main GI JOE base. They could even make whirlwinds & asps along with the other trailer sets, to be "towed" and released. We could totally army build vehicles and have space to spare. LOL! You could even use these vehicle pieces with a chess board or GI JOE Monopoly (use vehicles as game pieces, use trailers as houses and bases as hotels). The other option, is that Hasbro has a game included with the Star Wars figures. So maybe GI JOE could also translate well and be their next step. Tho that means the filecards may suffer if that happens. Though the filecards cant suffer much more than they already have. So what does everyone think?

So something I just remembered about asking. Was Red Star an October Guard "Marine" Captain or a "Navy" Captain? I've never had enough information to find out when I had photos of Red Star in the early 90's and now I dont have the photos available to me.

I like that idea Takedown.
I like Heroclix, not the game (never played), but the gamepieces make good little statues. I'm surprised that hasbro never released G.I. Joe Titanium vehicles like they did for Star Wars and Transformers. It seems a natural with the vehicles that Joe has.
