It seems like the first several Sunbow episodes had some oddball vehicles that never became toys. Those Cobra jets from the first episode, the landing craft the Baroness commands in the Weather Dominator series, and of course the cobra transport helicopters from at least a few early episodes. It would be interesting to find out if these were intentionally used in the cartoon with the intent that they'd become toys at some point, but a cost/sales concerns caused them to go in another direction. Or like someone earlier said, it was just the writers needing to get a character from point A to point B to accomplish mission C and inserted whatever equipment made sense to the episode and as the series took off, the idea of only using items that were actual toys for sale in the stores was implemented.
It's probably been said a million times before, but how cool would it be to see that giant snake transport thing from the opening credits or the big Cobra sub as a toy? Not possible now of course, but in the Joe Heyday when everybody had a Terror Drome and the Flagg still inhabited toy shelves, I could see them selling. |

Funny how that Cobra Utility Helicopter, the utility/transport version of the XH-1 Dragonfly what Ive dubbed the "XUH-1 Dragon-bison". Was part of the Joe team while lifting that astroid out of that Volcano out of The MASS Device mini-series.

Yeah, the cartoon was notorious for that sort of thing. Multi-passenger fighter jets, WHALES that could be operated from the gun turrets, Sky Strikers that could land almost vertically on any terrain. Season 2 was better about that sort of thing. I know that in the episode "My Favorite Things" the Conquest is shown as a 2 seater, and in "Nightmare Asssault" they use multiple Tommahawks with only 1 pilot each.

Cool pic. Kinda justifies my use of the Poc Hawk as Grunt if I can ever find one.

Speaking of wings, I started putting the Jolly Rogers decals on one of my Skystrikers. Here's a few shots. Can't wait to finish it.
