I just got back from lunch and had taken a quick trip to TRU. There were a bunch of renegades figures - mostly Duke, SE and CC. Ok... I semi-retract my statement about them looking "cartoony," but really only concerning Duke. His head sculpt is probably one of the finest German descendant heads I've ever seen on a 4" figure. While his body sculpt looks a little bit simple, I did notice the paint job did a lot to enhance the details of his uniform, and prevent it from looking too stylized. The choice of colors was still a little too pastel. It's a far cry from the Play-Doh looking comic pack Duke. All of his weapons look like placeholder props.
One thing that bothered me in the detail is that his pants were untucked. This is fine if he is practicing combatives or something, but otherwise hard to accept - kind of like Stalker's dreads. In the end it would have been $8 for a great head sculpt and that's about it.

Yeah, I bought the Rnegades Duke for custom fodder, and I was surprised at how skinny his arms are. Not a big deal, but still a bit odd. I just can't get that excited about wave 1, except Firefly, but the next couple of waves look good. Renegades Scarlett will be my default one too, but I may do a head swap.

Nebraska's only Joe to date is Leatherneck, from Stromsburg (1,179). This small town, just 10 blocks long and 13 wide, is in Polk County, about 50 miles northwest of Lincoln.

I'm gonna take Night Adder's vest and try it out on the Cobra Trooper. If it looks good, I'm gonna get some more of the vests and build a group of Cobra Prison Security Guards with Night Adder being the head of security. I like the idea of Cobra having it's own maximum security facility to keep enemies, and traitors locked up.

Or maybe a block in Nebraska is the size of a cornfield.

So in anticipation of POC Lifeline I decided to redo his file card to reflect his PJ credentials.
Actually I just revised this to give him the Air Force's GUU-5/P instead of the M4. Last edited by Tanksmasher; 11-01-2011 at 06:58 PM.. |

Oh yeah... file cards... this thread... almost forgot.
Speaking of Lifeline and his file card, I find it interesting how the cartoon seems to have superimposed Doc's personality onto Lifeline. Doc's FC talks about him being pacifist, but in the cartoon the topic was skirted around. Lifeline's FC says nothing of the sort, but in the cartoon if he ever has five seconds of screen time he's almost always using it up to explain how much of a pacifist he is. Either way, if you're a soldier, you're a killer. Pacifists, hah! Unless you were drafted reluctantly into the Korean War and part of a 70's sitcom, Army Pacifist is not likely. I can't speak for the other DoDs, but I have a feeling they'd agree.

Yeah, a lot of the later Joes were supposed to supplant the earlier ones and thus many new ones were remodeled after the old. Doc's bio I believe was inspired by the Conscientous Objectors, many of whom served as medics in the Vietnam War. Lifeline seemed to absorb some of his qualities, just like Leatherneck absorbed Gung-Ho's, Wet-Suit absorbed Torpedo's, and so.
