Found Sandstorm's filecard on yojoe yesterday- apparently he is an MP? I cant quite put my finger on why but that bothers me as much if not more than Night Fox being a SeAL.
I will be using him and Kickstart (from the Mech) as RAM cyclists in my Cav Scout team. I haven't been able to find an actual Sandstorm yet so I may have to customize one- this may work out in my favor as I would prefer him to have the hands (gloves) of City Strike Duke instead. Going back to the conversation about Joes that are Rangers- Desert Wolf from the Sigma series is listed as a Ranger. I think that I have decided to fold all of my desert guys, Cav Scouts & Rangers into one command based on AO and will do likewise with jungle/ SF Joes. Not sure what to do about uniforms for people like Stalker- traditionally iin green camo but by my logic as a Ranger he would be in the desert and should have a pattern that reflects that. One of the things I like most about Joes is their individuality (expressed in their uniforms). Would they retain their character if I put them all in a specific paint scheme (like Oliver's ODA Project)? Last edited by Topside; 09-23-2011 at 11:02 AM.. |

We need a few more MP's, and we need more SEALs in LandWarrior uniforms. But that's just my opinion. Tell me what bothers you about them?

If they had released either of these figures as a single card I doubt that I would have any issue with them other than Sandstorm not really looking like an MP. I agree that we could use more of each secialty (esp SeALs not in dive gear) but then why not just give us that? Also, when I referenced your ODA Project that wasn't a jab at it- I love the look that you and Deadpool have come up with- I just wanted an example of a topical camo that the thread was familiar with. But I would rather see the codename 'Night Fox' for the motorcycle MP and 'Sandstorm' for the Desert inserted Navy Seal vehicle driver. IMHO, I think it just works better.

Yeah, Sandstorm is ok but Night Fox is a pretty lousy codename

Yeah, Night Fox is terrible for a SEAL. His name should sound more maritime.

So, after I read all about the Ranger talk here and such. I decided to rearrange my formation of Joes yet again. Yes, Oliverbox the word Ranger was Awesome! Like Ranger Rick, when we were in grade school.
Just by moving Tunnel Rat into an EOD-"squad" it made many more dominos fall. All of a sudden, a quote in the movie popped into my head. "He finds the bombs, I drive the car. We tried it the other way, but it didnt work". So it started another dilemma, do I want Law in EOD-"squad" or in the Urban Operations. So I looked at the filecard, nothing about EOD, but there is something odd, Law, in his filecard it says that he is "Airborne Qualified". So it made me start to think, Do we as a collective claim that Airborne school and Airborne qualified wear a maroon beret? So, with Tunnelrat's move, I also moved Falcon, Torpedo, Lifeline, Dialtone, Dee Jay, Shipwreck and Snake Doc (Lincoln Talbot, thanks Oliverbox), just to name a few, to new "A-Teams". Which all this makes it alot easier for specialized units. 01- Regular Action, 02- Maritime & Mountain Ops, 03- Air Assault & Ranger Reg, 04- Urban Ops, 05- Military Freefall Codename: "Sky Patrol" HQ- Hawk, Duke, Flint, Beachhead B-Team, Support & Supply, CBR/NBC, Training EOD-"Squad" "Off the book's" Delta Detachment 1 [Stalker's team: Snake-eyes, Storm Shadow and Wade Collins], 2 [Slaughter's Renegades], 3 [Snipers] Helicopter: (Delta Insertion) [1] UH-60, [2] UH-65 Tomahawk (World Peacekeeper Aerial Rocket Helicopter), [3] MH-6 Cargo Plane: Sky Patrol MAS-X: Mobile Armor Strike-eXperimental SWCC: The Ensign Cutter Color Guard My Joe-verse Joe's arent all Green Berets but the units are set up that way to fill those slot positions: (CO, XO, Ops, Intel, Weapons, Combat Engineer/Demolitions, Radio, Medic). That way when they are divided up their 6-person units inside their vehicles (Humvee/Vamp) each team has one to perform that function. Noticed on Falcon's filecard they made him have enlisted traits. A Medic and Demolitions before becoming XO of an A-Team. Another Flint/Falcon connection.

I think its because they were released with vehicles. I know there needs to be drivers and pilots but I think that Joes in the past have conditioned me to expect that drivers are drivers and MPs are MPs etc....

Second, I think I understand what you're saying about vehicle drivers... however, I've always felt like the drivers were a little bit of a waste. At least Clutch and Crank-Case had some serious Special Operations training in their bios. The other drivers (Skid-Mark comes to mind) didn't have the kind of credentials that seemed to make it plausible for me to send them with some of my Joes. The SEALs, for example, were always a question for me... who was going to drive the vehicle for the SEALs? I never had a really good answer, so the SEALs ususally just drove their own vehicles. Now, I feel like Night Fox's vehicle is sort of the official "Joe SEAL jeep". I do agree, however, that if they had switched those names, it would have worked better. What kind of name is "Night Fox" for a Navy SEAL? And "Sand Storm"? They shouldn't reuse the codenames of Joe pets.

A Medic and Demolitions before becoming XO of an A-Team. Another Flint/Falcon connection. You might consider this - and this is what I do - I use the same character on multiple specialty teams. For example, I use Beach-Head as the NCOIC/Field Leader of Tiger Force. However, he's also on Night Force. Well, in my Joeverse, it's unlikely Tiger Force and Night Force would be deployed at the same time. However, if they did have to be used simultaneously, Beach-Head's primary assignment to Tiger Force takes precedence. Consequently, you could use Law & Order as an MP with your other MPs, and have him listed as a "Reservist" to your EOD squad... if EOD needs him, he can go if the MPs can cover for him. More than likely, his regular duties as an MP would be a more regular gig than Order's role a bomb dog. Just a thought. My Joe Team is really pretty small. Not counting Steel Brigade or the Green Shirts, it's really just the characters that Hasbro has released with a very few additions like Magnum P.I. and Jack Bauer and Bob Scott from "Spartan". So I don't have 5 or 6 ODA Teams... I group my Joes by Sub-Teams and Specialties. Those that are Special Forces are grouped together. SEALs are grouped together. I figure that the missions the Joes go on would require a multitude of Specialties. The Rangers need an EOD specialist, so Tunnel Rat is on that Team to deal with that. The Green Berets also need an EOD, so Beach-Head can do that. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to put all the snipers on one team or the EOD guys on one team... every team needs to be well rounded. And, environmentally focused teams (desert, jungle, etc.) really only need one specialist. Adding Recondo to a team of otherwise well-rounded Joes pretty much makes it a jungle team. Adding Dusty pretty much makes it a desert team. Most Joes should be able to adapt quickly. And I'm very glad you appreciate the mystique of the word "Ranger". I don't think there is a more effective or efficent way to describe what an Infantryman should be than to say, "He's an Airborne Ranger". That title evokes emotion and conveys a sense of competancy and proficency... and just plain toughness. Surrender is Not a Ranger word. Reading the Ranger Creed just makes you want to start doing push-ups. It just fires people up. I think that deep down, every red-blooded American boy wants to be an Airborne Ranger.

This sounds like a really good system.
So basically, most of the time I have them driving in theater along the road, they call up the EOD "Squad". Then a Desert Camo Humvee (from Big Lots) pulls up to disarm the device. Right now, Short Fuse, Tripwire, Lightfoot, Blowtorch and Tunnelrat is assigned in this unit. Really cant figure out where Blowtorch and Short Fuse could really serve in an elite unit, but the incindary devices for Blowtorch I made him take the leap over to EOD. (I guess "The Hurt Locker" sorta had me dream up that sequence). So, about the GI JOE Airborne school/qualified does that allow a maroon beret? Or is that only people assigned to Airborne units?
