Steel Brigade came around at the end of my childhood Joe collecting. I wasn't even aware of it, so this is all beyond me. Give me a bunch of GOOD greenshirts any day.

This is my personal stance, too. I think the SB looks cool, but they weren't my cup of tea. I will pick up a few of them for custom fodder, though...

Yeah got a POC Steel Brigade, a 30th Steel Brigade and the Steel Brigade Delta (Driver). But dont know if I will use them in my SpecMiFor unit. Might do a head switch later on and integrate them in.
So far I watched the 25 episodes of M.A.S.K.'s I have. the SB-Delta's helmet looks slightly like Buddy Hawkes helmet, but with a camera on the left side of it above the visor part. It could work Buddy Hawkes was the mechanic that worked at Boulder Station.

Initially, it was a promotion (mail-in figure) and the Steel Brigade figures' filecards were supposed to be based on the choices of the people sending them in. Steel Brigade was said to be a Reserve Unit for the Joe Team... a seperate unit of Reservists, but functionally a fan club of sorts for kids to feel like they joined the Joe team and had their own personalized figures. When Hasbro bought Tonka, a metal truck was made by Tonka for the Joes; it was specifically marked with the Steel Brigade logos. In around 2006, Hasbro released a 6 figure pack that included 3 Steel Brigade figures and 3 Cobra figures. These 3 Steel Brigade figures were the first named figures: Rook, Red Zone, and Checkpoint. This was the first time any member of Steel Brigade had been issued to the general public through a retail store, and the first time Hasbro had ever given a member of Steel Brigade a code name. Then in around 2006, the Collector's Club released special urbanized Steel Brigade figures as part of the Club set that year. Gung-Ho, Dragonski, and the Steel Brigade Commander were "leading" the team. The troopbuilder figures from this set were now considered "Special Airborne Steel Brigade"... and allegedly more elite than the old Steel Brigade figures. A specialized "Rain Urban" camo was used for this set, and it distinguished them from the old Steel Brigade, and the 3 named figures released by Hasbro. Then, in 2009, when the Movie came out, Hasbro released a new Troop Builder for the Joe Team: PIT Commando. Included as a part of the figure's gear, was the distinctive Steel Brigade helmet... though certainly not specifically stated by Hasbro, many of us felt that the PIT Commando should be considered a "Special Forces" component of Steel Brigade. And that brings us to POC/30th... A really nice update to the original Steel Brigade figure. Except now it seems from the filecard that Steel Brigade figures are more like "green shirts" than a seperate Reserve Unit. I keep my Steel Brigade as a seperate unit that focuses on Urban warfare. Major Bullet-Proof Commands them. I don't have any of the classic ARAH Steel Brigade figures, but I do use every other type of Steel Brigade figure, plus the "unofficial" figures from the Hulk movie line of toys at TRU. I don't use the new Steel Brigade Delta figures as vehicle drivers. I use them as a Special Operations unit - an amphibious counterpart to the PIT Commandos.

They basically are the new Joe recruits. The ones that distinguish themselves get a codename.

That's certainly how DDP depicted the "Green Shirts" in their run.

Does anyone use Steel Brigade as an actual brigade? Or are they a smaller, more specialized unit?

An actual brigade is 5 Battalions... I doubt anyone has that many Joes. But I doubt you're talking numbers, how did you mean it?
