Without getting into the Army vs. Navy debate, I meant to say that SF does emphasize physical abilty as well as teamwork and intellect. I didn't put that in my post, so I apologize for not being clear on that. As to the appearance of some SF operators, I've seen some pics that show them to be big/bulky, not necessarily "fat" though. In fact, I have a pic of one of the A-Teams that served in Afghanistan, and they look like guys I might see around town. That's not in any way a "dig", it just shows how good they are at blending in to their environment. Also, if you think about it, SF was originally intended to be a "stay behind" unit in case things got hot in Western Europe, so it sounds like a lot of their training is designed to encourage their abilities to act as individuals if necessary.

Tomax and Xamot serviced with the Foreign Legion Paras in Algeria before the officers Putsch. Is Paras french for Paris? Who or what is Putsch? Tomax and Xamot fought wars in Africa and South America.

Yeah, that's all true. SF was one of the 2 inheritors of the OSS traditions from WWII, the other being CIA, of course. They're designed to breakdown into teams as small as two-man teams and train/lead indigenous forces. But they're equally adept at Recon, Direct Action, etc. They also have Special Forces Scuba Teams that do pretty good work in that department. They're designed to blend in, but there are Tons of SF guys, usually senior NCO's, who are really big from years in the weight room and ruck marches. SF A-Teams specialize in three areas of insertion/operation, or at least they used to: 1. Ruck March, 2. Scuba, 3. HALO/LALO. there's a lot of overlap - everybody ruck marches, but specialties none the less. The vast majority of teams are "Ruck" teams; they train to Ruck march over long distances in remote areas. However, each Group has several HALO and Scuba teams. The Scuba guys tend to be a little bigger - or at least, that's what I observed. In addition to their weight training, the long hours of swimming and diving bulks them up. Rucking tends to keep guys a little trimmer, but their shoulders and legs get big. HALO guys, as you can imagine, stay smaller and that's intentional. As the old running cadence says, "If you wanna be airborne, you gotta be thin."

I'm almost done reading through the thread; about 70 more pages. Since I'm thinking about paratroopers, what would be a good codename for an ex para-viper who joins the Joes? I was thinking Green-Light, but idk. For kicks, I was thinking about his name in Cobra being Red-Light, but that seems to be forcing it a bit much. |

Did anyone pick up the GI JOE VS COBRA book at Borders during their closeout sale?
Also Im wondering who is using 30th Stalker as A) Stalker, B) Cool Breeze or C) Quickstrike. Right now I'm torn between Cool Breeze and Quickstrike, with Cool Breeze in the lead since we have Elijah F. Green as his filename. Cool Breeze slightly fits better with the team I assigned him to. (Ambush, Recoil, Hit n Run, Crazylegs and Hard Drive). Stalker looks almost perfect for Quickstrike. Tho I dont have any other Extreme or Sgt Savage Joes in my SpecMiFor. Do we know Quickstrike's filename?

geez, Oliver, what did DEVGRU do to you, shoot your dog? Your last few posts seem to be focused on tearing them down. I understand the whole taking pride in your service thing, but take it down a notch will you?

This isn't an Army vs. Navy thing. I mentioned that the Marines' training was superior as well. I only responded in the same manner as Blackrazor posted to me. But please, instead of just complaining about my posts, if you've got something that I said you disagree with, please post something substantive.

Overall, I think the new Stalker is a good figure, and I'm SUPER glad to see him wearing a black beret instead of a green one... the flash on the card art even looks like the Ranger Regiment flash. I don't like the goatee or the dreadlocks... no Ranger would have those. And besides Resolute, Stalker has always been pretty "by the book".

Dreads are just right out; there's no excuse for that. I can't even stand to see it in football, let alone an action figure that's supposed to be in the US military - no matter how cool it may look.

It reminds me of when I was still kind of fresh out of AIT and started going to my Reserve drills. I saw a SFC standing in another unit's formation with a full beard (no dreads, of course), and I was thinking to myself, "WTF?" (phonetically). I was looking around to see if anyone else even noticed. Someone had told me that some Special Forces and mission-specific soldiers can grow beards for sanitary reasons and it sometimes helps them relate to indigenous folks in country. There's also the possibility of a shaving profile, but this guy also had on a red beret. I had a feeling it was much cooler than shaving profile.
Dreads are just right out; there's no excuse for that. I can't even stand to see it in football, let alone an action figure that's supposed to be in the US military - no matter how cool it may look. I don't know a lot about dreadlocks, but I do know that besides being ridiculous, they're highly unsanitary. I could see Stalker growing a beard down range... if he needed to blend in, that's one thing. But with the beret... Stalker would never show up to formation at the Regiment like that. And like you said, the dreads are Right Out.
