I think I might have forgotten a Green Beret. I was trying to research the thread about Spirit's chevrons meant, because I remember zuludelta mentioning that and I found something I forgot. The Action Force files had Spirit as a Green Beret.
Oliverbox, did you decide to include Spirit in your Green Berets? I remember how you felt about Snake Eyes being part of a direct-action military forces, so I wont ask.

Actually, I include Snake-Eyes, Spirit, and Stalker on my custom ODA team. They are Green Berets in my Joeverse... my contention has always been: Snake-Eyes and Stalker are not "Officially" Green Berets in the ARAH Cannon. But good catch on Spirit. The Action Force Battle Files get a little tough to deal with... they're well done, don't get me wrong. For me, it's more of a question of, "Well, if I accept this Battle File, what do I do with this other one that says Beach-Head is from New Zealand?" The rule I've used is if the AFBF doesn't contradict the U.S. filecard, then I consider it viable. This is certainly the case with Duke, Hawk, and Spirit and some others.

I'm stupefied that no one has anything to say about the Airtight-Paul Kirchner connection.
Here's an inconsistency: SGT Slaughter is a Drill Instructor, which is proper for U. S. Marines. However another Marine, Learherneck's secondary MOS says Drill Sergeant, which is a U. S. Army title. There are many more inconsistencies, but this one strikes me as particularly sloppy.

As the the Drill Instructor dicrepency, I do understand you're frustration. And yes, there are MANY inconsistencies and in the Joe continuity... but really? The one that strikes you as "particularly sloppy" is the difference between Drill Sgt. and Drill Instructor? That's the one that really bothers you? Were you a Drill Instructor? It just seems like there are a lot bigger inconsistencies out there.

Not the biggest inconsistency in my book either, there are plenty of non-existant MOSs on the filecards. They get sloppier once Hama stops writing them after 88 or so.
Paul Kirchner I know very little of. He was one of the artists on GIJoe. If you take the pronounciation of his last name it sounds like Kurt Schnurr Airtights Filename. Who both happen to be born in New Haven Conn. I think we touched on the tributes to real people a while back. I don't own Bellemo's book but I think one of those gives some details. I know some of the later figures like Big Brawler and Sure-Fire are shout-outs to the GIJoe Club owners who I think wrote filecards during the Real American Collection years 2000-2003. Brian Mullholland and David Lane. I think even Rampage is one of them as well that was one of the toy designers at Hasbro. I think Zuludelta could pick most of them out.

Thanks. Loose Cannon.
Tho it is ironic, When people ask him what his job in the army is, he tells them, "Being quiet". An RTO's job being quiet? A type of guy who says enough to get the job done. YOJOE.COM | Filecard Gallery - Recoil The reason I didn't remember him was because I repurposed him as Agent John Clark from the Tom Clancy novels. |

Sir, about the Drill Instructor issue: it's more "particular" in relativity. A. It's a new find for me, so it sticks out more for the moment. B. I was focused on 1985 file cards, so it's relative to that group of inconsistencies. C. I was never a DI or DS, but I am Army - so it just bothers me a little more than maybe it should. Given the above factors combined, it tends to stick out. I didn't mean to come across like it was THAT big a deal. I don't consider "particular" to be anywhere near "ultimate." I'm not a Paul Kirchner fan myself, although from what I've seen he is really talented. I just started researching famous/well known Kirchners after closely inspecting Airtight's file name: Kurt Schnurr. I came across Paul Kirchner in a few different resources. Some resources conflicted a little bit with one another, but they all provided enough information to make the connection. Kirchner specialized in surrealist artwork and fantasy stories. He also wrote for He-Man and apparently for GI Joe and other franchises - I'm assuming it was for the comics of these properties. He and Larry Hamma were colleagues. According to SCREW Magazine, he even went by the pen name of Kurt Schnurr. He had his own periodic publication called "Heavy Metal," which is why I said he might have been an influence for the GI Joe with that name as well. It's too much to be just a coincidence. It's not about whether Paul Kirchner should be put up on a pedestal or not, or that that is why Airtight is great. I could care less. Rather, it's about Airtight being more of a back-shelf Joe with an interesting tie-in to real-life, and it's one more mystery solved. I'm just getting into the spirit of this thread, "What secrets lurk in the filecards?" That seemed like a big secret revealed to me. I'll admit it's not as important as something like Tunnel Rat being sculpted after Larry Hamma, but it's a solid find, nonetheless.

Wow, the Paul Kirchner thing was a nice revelation. Nice find to both Rooster and Loose. Welcome to the thread Rooster and to you too Blue Ninja (although I'm sure you posted back in the day, so welcome back), it's always nice to have more people add their thoughts and ideas
