Well, it's certainly not high literature, but I thought the whole book was a pretty fun read. Also, I just wanted to support the idea of a longer form, prose book about G.I. Joe. I know we have all talked about a series of novels - like Tom Clancy or WEB Griffen - about the Joes... I figure, if the book sells well, we're more likely to see something like that in the future.
The some of the other stories were pretty good. They're all pretty different, so there might be a few in there that you might like. |

Oh I'm not trying to disparage the idea. I like the idea of getting short stories about GI Joe but I just didn't want to spend the money on this unless I knew the other stories were worth reading. Granted I'm not expecting fine literature but maybe something on par with Costa and Gage or even someone like Timothy Zahn.
It's been a while since I've read Timothy Zahn, but this is probably not on par with that. However, some of these stories are more interesting and readable than others. Different authors wrote different stories. My hope is that this book will sell well enough that the idea of a decent Joe Novel will be seen as finicially lucrative.

I use my noks as a sort of guns for hire gang. Members get arrested all the time, so they skirt the legal system, but they are usually involved in crimes against other criminal elements. The Justice system tends to look the other way or the crimes are never reported. Drug deal goes down, they go in and kill everybody and take the money and the drugs. I like Oliver's take on them being all ex-military. But they are most useful for cobra in breaking up other gangs and recruiting/shang-hi-ing various low life disenfranchised types. I would think an easy source of money for Cobra would be drug money. There's a lot and they can just take it, without anyone reporting it. This is where a guy like Headman would be useful in profiting off the supplies they steal. Why wouldn't they? Most other Terrorist organizations do it.
So with the Drug trade, I think Cobra would let Headman handle that. They might even keep it away from the 'Noks, just to keep it compartmentalized. IDW's Cobra seems pretty adept and not letting the left hand know what the right hand is doing.

Oliver & Loose- thanks for the replies.
I like what you guys do and will probably adopt something similar. For me Zartan really doesnt work as the leader of a biker gang. I'd much rather have him as a mercenary along the lines of Firefly, Major Blood etc. I'm still not sure where Zandar & Zarana fit in- their "look" is biker, but i'm not sure i can reconcile them leading the 'noks without Zartan. I never had Zartan as a kid and only started to think about using him when i picked up a 25th at Family Dollar. Even that would need some tweaking to fit my ideal of him. im thinking reso zartan with pp snake eyes coat instead of armor. |

I use Cobra as a PMC (private Military Contractor) gone bad. Where their lust for profit, arrogance and genuine zeal of being able to fix the world has led them to become closer to what they were fighting. In this respect, the Dreadnoks were used as contracted muscle whenever the use of conventional COBRA forces were deemed poilitically incorrect or sensitive.
As Cobra evolved from a PMC capable of genuine regime change to that of a global power in and of itself, the 'Noks have evolved too. Despite their boorish behaviour and almost asinine personalities depicted by the media, each 'Nok is a very highly skilled, highly trained ex military personnel. They are organized like a Motorcycle club as it gives them mobility, legal protection etc. They are led nominally by Zartan who generally does his own thing and leaves the day to day ops to Zanya. The Noks are involved in the drug trade, money laundering, contract killings, arms trade, etc. Additionally Zandar has started running their offshore interests in piracy (with Zanzibar), poaching, trafficking of endangered species, archeological objects and blood diamonds (with Gnawgahyde). Zarana has gone in another direction and uses the Noks vast intel gathering and contacts to become an information broker. With her acting and social skills, she seems equally adept in a biker bar or a fortune 500 charity ball so.. |

I agree Zartan's talents seem sort of wasted on a biker gang, but I like to think the rest of the Dreadnoks are not complete idiots. Plus I think they also dabble in a little piracy as well. They can take advantage of any unsuspecting yatch. But I think they could easily serve as Assassins, particularly Zartan and his siblings. I've been using the Desert Zartan with the alternate head as Zandar. Much better look than a traditional Zandar. I would love a Coil version of Zandar, but I think he makes a great Sniper.

So are they supposed to reveal some new figures, besides the Club exclusives, at SDCC or have we seen pretty much everything that's coming out this year?

I thought they use to, but it looks like this year they already showed us everything at the GIJoe Convention.
$50 for Zarana is a little much for me.
