I know, it's very cool. I like that they tried to ascribe relevant ranks to military positions. Like pilots being officers, those with relevant degrees too. Like Spirit being a LT.
Under the "Euro" link, there's a ton more filecards from Italy, Spain, France and one or two German ones. I like the different file names as well. My favourite is Sci Fi; Frank N Chip. I guess to reflect a UK delicacy..Bangers and Mash. Good stuff |

I wonder what it was like if you had all of them. Was Hawk in charge and then Dodger? I didn't see a Lt Colonel, but Major Altitude was actually a Major. So is Pathfinder.
One of the snake-Eyes is a Lt. There is almost more Officers than Enlisted. They actually demoted a bunch of guys too. No love for Stalker. Flint and Budo are Captains!

Found this on my travels. Netherlands File Cards.Very interesting reading, seems like they've promoted a ton of Joes. Basically anyone who looks like a pilot or driver is an officer.
GIJoe.nl :: Dossiers! My personal fave is the Chinese Gung Ho...Chung Ho aka Sgt Kwo Mei Tang. http://www.gijoe.nl/dossiers/1989/dossier_chung-ho.jpg Quote:
Man, that's an awesome find. It just boggles the mind how the GI Joe concept was so popular internationally back in the day and how Hasbro has seemingly failed to capitalize on it in recent years. Military men and women fighting against terrorism in stylized cartoon/comic book fashion is a concept that translates well in most any medium and culture, and I can't believe it isn't any more popular than, say, robotic aliens that transform into cars, sparkly vampires, or any number of space operas.

Wow Tyroc! I had no idea how widespread it had got either. I wonder if it took the 86 year to get the ball rolling? Even though there are a few from the 84 years it looks like they released them 86ish? I'm having a lot of fun going through the ranks.
My favorite so far is Dodger as a Colonel Would that make him #2? And Static line is a Captain, Skydive is a Leiutenant. Very nice find |

I think it would have been nice to see these file cards properly revised. Give DT a PMS of Communications Sergeant (18E) and Leatherneck a PMS of Weapons Sergeant (18B). Not sure where Mainframe would fall since DT is the Com Sgt. Perhaps Assistant Operations & Intelligence Sergeant (18F). And Wet-Suit could be the Engineer Sergeant (18C), even though he's still a SEAL in my book.

I directed you to the wrong book Lardman. I'm sorry. Had a chance to look at it recently and couldn't find the picture I was thinking of. I found these pics in a different book.
The SEAL I saw was wearing black netting with the eyes cut out with a protec helmet and skydiving goggles. After reading Scarlett's filecard (the v1 one) I am a bit confused because of all the qualifications she has, I apologize if its been discussed a lot before but can someone decipher her background a little bit for me? Interesting, reading a few of those cards (it's pretty similar to German and the Belgian ones have French translations too which is good), I'd thought these were just the same cards as we had in the UK. But apparently I'm wrong:
http://www.gijoe.nl/dossiers/1988/dossier_stavast.jpg Beachhead was of course from New Zealand and a member of the NZSAS, but here he seems to be from Norway. I've also spotted some other alterations - e.g. Leatherneck was iirc from Germany, and in these cards is from the Netherlands: http://www.gijoe.nl/dossiers/1988/dossier_tor.jpg This is quite interesting, might be worth an effort to translate them all into English to make life easier for people to compare the changes. I think the point to make is that yes "GI Joe" was popular, but not as a US-only force. To sell in the UK/Europe, modifications to the characters were required. Not sure how well that works for an international film though... |

In reality though, none of the major US military sniper schools (Army Sniper School, Army Special Operations Target Interdiction Course, Marine Scout Sniper School, SEAL Sniper School) actually accept female students. The US Air Force's Close Precision Engagement Course/Countersniper School started accepting female students in 2001, I believe, but depending on who you ask, there's some debate about whether or not it's a "true" sniper school (or if it's more akin to the US Army MP School's Special Reaction Team Marksman & Observer Course). |
