The 2002 v5 of Dusty has him born in North Kingstown,Rhode Island and his name is Jeffery Paquette.
In Beach Head`s 1993 Filecard,it says he is a naturalist and doesn`t wear deodorant. In his 2002 Filecard,it says he can wear the Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal badge,Combat Infantryman badge and the Good Conduct medal. In Destro`s 2008 Filecard,it says that he has the same dream that Cobra Commander has about ruling the world. In Baroness`s 2002 & 2009 Filecards, she is part of the Crimson Strike Team. She is waiting to take over Cobra as soon as Cobra Commander is defeated |

He was probably named after the son of a Hasbro employee... one of the senior designers who took over after Ron Rudat left Hasbro was named Phil Paquette, IIRC, and I think one of the senior marketing execs was named Desiree Paquette (don't know how they're related, if at all).

Ah, but other scenes from issue #10 that SE was thinking of were specifically those with significant emotional impact to avoid his thinking about the location of the PIT, so it doesn't necessarily mean that SE was there at the fall of Saigon, just that he has some emotional attachment to it.
Of course this doesn't really create problems for my story since I have Stalker re-upping and going Special Forces after his first tour and returning to Vietnam with SE and Tommy for several 6-month tours with SOG. But it is a curious footnote in the history. |

There is another interesting discrepancy in the comics that strains the timeline for Stalker, Tommy and SE. In issue 94, Wade says, "[The NVA] moved me out to a camp that’s impossible to describe. Two years, I spent in that hole... And then one morning it was over! The war had ended and we were free!" His comment suggests he was a POW until the Paris Peace Accords were signed in Februrary of 1973 and the POWs were released during Operation Homecoming. But if he only spent "two years in the hole" he must have been captured in early 1971, not in 1968.

Hey, I came across something in my research that made me recall our discussion about Flint some time back. Often, I try to find real-life figures to base characters on, and one day I came across this veteran whose military career was very similar to Flint's, making a plausible case for his diverse training credentials. In short, this guy volunteered for Special Forces, became a SSG, then graduated Flight School, flew the Huey and Cobra, received a battlefield commision, worked in various commands, and went back to Special Forces to command the SF IMA.
Here's an excerpt from an interview with Major (ret) Terry Morris: I enlisted right after high school in 1963 and after basic and AIT went straight to jump school. Was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division. From there went to SF and assigned to the 10th SFG in Germany as a demo specialist. Attained the rank of SSG. In 1967 attended Warrant Officer Flight School and upon graduation and appointment to WO1 was assigned to the 240th Assault Helicopter Company (Greyhounds and Mad Dogs) at Bear Cat, RVN. Received a battlefield commission to 2Lt in 1969. Rather unique in that I was promoted to CW2 that morning and later in the afternoon was called back to HQ and given my commission. Returned to the states in 1969 as an instructor at the Flight School at Ft. Wolters, Tex. Returned to Vietnam in 1970 flying the AH-1G Cobra and was assigned to D Co, 101st Aviation Battalion, 101st Airborne Division. After Vietnam I spent some time in leg assignments commanding a basic training company and finishing my college. After bootstrap and the Infantry Officer Advanced Course I returned to Ft. Bragg flying with the 129th AHC, 18th Airborne Corps and then back to the 82nd where I commanded the Cobra platoon for the 82nd Aviation Battalion. From there back to Special Forces where I commanded the Headquarters Company, Institute For Military Assistance (IMA) (which was the second largest company in the Army second only after the Pentagon HQ Co), also commanded the Allied Liaison Division and the 1st Special Forces Company while assigned to IMA. Back to leg assignments at TRADOC HQ at Ft. Monroe, VA and then as Deputy Commander of the Test and Evaluation Division, Combat Developments at the Infantry School, Ft. Benning where we developed and tested all new equipment and weapons designated for the infantry. Retired after 25 years of service. |

Nice find, that sounds so much like Flint that you've got to wonder if Hama had also heard this guy's story.

Alpine`s 1985 Filecard says he graduated Ranger School.
Keelhaul`s 1985 Filecaqrd says he graduated from Annapolis and Navy Flight School. He flew Phantom F-4`s off the Intrepid in the 60s. Spirit`s 1989 Filecard says he served in Southeast Asia as a commander of a Scout Patrol. In his 2008 Filecard,it says he returned to serve again after completing his education. |

Finally got a carded PoC Steel Brigade figure. Nice nod to the 1988 order form by leaving the space for the filename blank in the filecard. I wasn't thrilled with the figure when I first saw the pics online, but it's grown on me (the articulation is tops) and is in my top three favourite PoC figures so far (the other two being PoC Firefly and the Shock Trooper). My one gripe, and it's a minor one, is I wish instead of an FN SCAR, his second assault rifle was an M4 or M16A4 with an underbarrel M203 or M320 grenade launcher or conversely, instead of an M4 with a bayonet, his other assault rifle was an FN SCAR with an underbarrel FN40GL grenade launcher. That way, you can configure him according to the 4 standard fireteam positions: rifleman, grenadier, automatic support weapon gunner, and anti-tank weapon specialist.

If I get back into figure buying, I'd like to get a few and paint them with a MARPAT camo pattern. You could get a few modular M4s from Marauder John.
Wasn't someone supposed to post pics of the Mission Brazil II filecards?

In Europe and basically everywhere other than the USA, Beachhead's v1's filecard says that he is NZSAS on secondment to the Rangers.
Could he have been shifted round the country beforehand and he's only talking about the last two which were particularly bad? Does still miss out 3 years, but that's possible I guess. I'll have to have another read of those panels. Thanks Tanksmasher Thats so awesome that Beachhead is NZSAS being a kiwi myself. |
