Here's a thread I found, with more info on the M32 RDF:
Small Scale Military Headquarters - View topic - For the GI Joe Fans: The Mauler Actually Existed!! Apparently the real M32 had a crew of three, with a commander in the turret (I guess the gunner sat in front, next to the driver). So here's my question. Does the MBT Mauler toy have space for anyone in the turret, or just the two guys in front? In the comic it was usually portrayed with someone in the turret, but looking at the pix of the toy I can't tell. And obviously I never had one of my own. |

True. We couldn't really afford to get any vehicles when I was a kid, so all our "vehicles" and "playsets" were improvised from various cardboard and styrofoam box containers and discarded odds and ends. I even used to use a broken Betamax tape rewinder as a makeshift tank (or hovercraft, depending on what I needed it for that day). You had to love the 1980s.

But these were back in the days when kids had some imagination (or perhaps that's just time to play with toys rather than video games and watching TV) Onto another question that the John Clark custom thread reminded me of, rather circuitously. When Clark/Kelly is heading back into Vietnam he's said to be dressed in a camouflaged wetsuit for his trip from the submarine. Do and did such things exist? I imagine they do, but does anyone have a useful way of finding pictures of them, as if I search using Google I either get wetsuits for fish watchers with pictures of coral on them, or camouflaged ones which are sold to members of the public because afaict they look cool. Does anyone have any proper reference materials? Thanks |

Does anyone have any proper reference materials? Thanks And the reason you're aren't finding anything on Google is probably because you're searching for "camouflage wetsuits," which can be traced to a fault in the reference material you've drawn the term from. Combat swimmers from different countries do in fact use swimming attire printed in woodland (and other pattern) camouflage, but they aren't wetsuits. They are "drysuits" (that is, suits that are designed to prevent water from coming into contact with the wearer's skin, unlike wetsuits). Here's an example of a camouflage drysuit in woodland/M81 camo: A Google image search for "camouflage drysuit" or "woodland camouflage drysuit" should yield more examples. |

A quick and superfluous Google search (didn't go past the 1st results page) didn't yield any images of the earlier camouflaged drysuits, but here's an image of a contemporary one made by a company that is supposed to have a contract with the Department of Homeland Security (perhaps it is intended for Coast Guard and FBI HRT divers?):

I think this is just a wetsuit. It doesn't have the special cuffs drysuits have.

Hmmm. Doesn't look like something used by any American combat swimming/diving units that I've seen. Are those Polish Special Commando Regiment frogmen? The camo pattern looks vaguely familiar, but I can't place where I've seen it before.
