I'm pretty sure fatally wounded equals dead.

Good catch, I forgot all about Recoil. It's interesting how many prototype technologies actually made it into Ron Rudat's toy designs (although I don't think any of it was designated as controlled unclassified information... he was given guided tours at Natick and other military R&D sites during the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s and presumably, what he was allowed to see for research purposes was stuff that was available for viewing to the American public upon request). Off the top of my head, of the 1980s Rudat stuff, here are the real-world 1960s/1970s/1980s military prototypes that never went into full production or beyond the testing phase, but made it onto GI Joe as "Easter Eggs":
Some people will probably argue that the Phantom X-19 was based on a real-world prototype, but given all existing and reliable evidence, the supposed X-19 developed by the Air Force is a myth (the Air Force's top secret "Have Blue" stealth technology testing platform looked nothing at all like the various "X-19" renditions based on speculation). I wrote a detailed post (with links to images) about the "F-19" myth's origins here if any of you are interested in reading it. |

Doesn`t Fatally Wounded mean that somebody has been shot?
Wouldn`t it have been better to have written Fatally Injured,if in a fatal car crash? Either way it means they died. |

It just means you died from your injury. Usually pretty quick, like within minutes as opposed to days later.

I think whoever wrote that filecard meant to use the term "mortally wounded" and not "fatally wounded." You'd think a proofreader (if Hasbro had any on staff at the time) would have caught that mistake.

With Andy Schmidt leaving IDW to work directly for Hasbro, do you think he will be writing the new filecards?

Probably. I don't think "filecard writer" is a full-time position, though, he'll likely be assigned to some concept development team or somesuch. Anyway, while I think IDW's handling of the property under his stewardship has been hit-and-miss at best, from interviews, his articles/columns, and forum interactions, he strikes me as an old-school fan of GI Joe who also happens to have a pretty accomplished resumé in the comics publishing field. Whatever he ends up doing for Hasbro, I'm sure the final product will be better for it.

I assumed he would do more than just write file cards, but any improvement to them is better than what we've been getting.
