Bushido: Lloyd Goldfine Hollis Queens, NY
Banzai: Robert Travalino, Hartsdale, NY T'gin-Zu: Joseph (Balporte?) Somers, NY Nunchuck: Ralph Badducci: Brooklyn, NY T'Jbang: Sam LeQuale: East Greenwich, RI (Of Course) Dojo: Michael Russo: San Francisco, CA My question which sort if seemed funny to me, is how did so many Italian American \New Yorkers become ninjas? I'm not sure about LeQuale. But after reading Bushido's file card about how he wears the samauri head gear as a family tradition. I mean come on, Lloyd Goldfine? I went back to reread them all. In fact none of these names seem Japanese, although they seem so in the comics. If there is an unexplored story I'd like to hear it. |

Ripcord is just gnarly, but one thing that bothers me about the upcoming movie is...why take a great character that only has one definitive version/release and change him...

Yeah, they were written about 6+ years after the end of Viet Nam.
I agree, that's probably why there is no association with the war. Today's climate is different and there's more politics involved. Sad to say, but you know if there was some reference to Duke's involvement in the Iraq war, Desert Storm, Afghanistan or Somalia there would be people up in arms about it. "War toy glorifies Bush's meaningless war" or something stupid like that. Still doesn't explain why they can't give schooling and qualifications like they used to. Instead we get "Duke's a good leader". Bah. What crap.... 79-80 - still alot to do with Iran. 80s+ Iran contra. The Russio-Afghan Wars. Also I read somewhere that the biggest concern was Soviet Union and communism. Hasbro was trying to avoid offending our biggest cold war rival at the time. |

Ripcord just seems an odd choice compared to the other team members. Hawk - leader Duke - field leader Scarlet - token female (for the movie) Snake-Eyes - the bad ass Heavy Duty - heavy weapons Breaker - communications Ripcord - HALO jumper???? Just seems out of place. So I'm waiting for the movie to explain better why it's even Ripcord being used (without even getting into the race change, which really doesn't bother me).

actually anthing 90-92 would put it around events leading up to and follow desert shield/storm.

Hasbro was trying to avoid offending our biggest cold war rival at the time. Which may be why they're not being so specific now, not wanting to "offend" anyone internationally? Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm wondering how the 'Nam references were able to survive. 'Nam was, and still is, a pretty controversial topic.

I can see them all being from America, but how did they all get hooked up with Storm Shadow and get trained so quickly? That's what annoyed me. It takes a long time to train a ninja, but Storm Shadow trained Ninja Force in no time at all (same with Billy). At least DDP showed that it took a year (at least) for training Ophelia (Snake-Eyes' first apprentice) and then Kamakura. Also, did the Ninja Force receive the clan tattoo? Kamakura received it, and he was in part trained by Dojo and Nunchuk.

That is pretty odd. Dojo and T'jbang were shown as asian in the comics. T'jbang especially, with him taking over the Red Ninja clan in America's Elite.

I don't look like someone who would have such a germanic/anglo-saxon last name. Could be that their Fathers were soldiers stationed abroad married women from ancient martial arts blood lines. Explains the white-eye names and the asian appearence/ family background. |
