The 1988 Filecard of Budo has him born in Sacramento,California.
The 1993 mail in version of Budo has him coming from Japan to be part of the International Action Force. Which also includes Big Ben,Big Bear and Spirit. |

That's real interesting. I honestly did not know that the IAF version of Budo had a different birthplace listed.

The 1988 filecard is the ONLY version of Budo's bio I accept as cannon. He is my FAVORITE Joe, (for all unbelievers, check MY bio .)
I would near SHIT myself, if they made a POC City Strike version of him that came with his pan-head Harley, with his Katana, and Wakizashi sheathed behind his bike's saddle-bags. (!!HASBRO PAY ATTENTION!!) Anyways... |

If I had it MY way, classic style for the 30 anniv. celebration, AND a POC CS update. I mean, we've got like 50 SE's, right?

Loose Cannon and I discussed this in another thread, but yeah, Budo was one of those characters that just had me going WTF (if the expression had existed back then) but ended up getting a lot of play time anyway. I mean, he looked goofy as hell beside all the other Joes from 1988 (it was a very strong "class" design-wise... you had guys like Hit & Run, Muskrat, Blizzard, Shockwave, urban camo Storm-Shadow, Repeater, etc.) but he was a lot of fun to play with for me, both as himself, or as a stand in for some other fantasy character (I'd frequently use him as Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat in wrestling play, with Roadpig as Dino Bravo).
I'd like to see a modern Budo figure but I'm torn between wanting a re-do of the classic figure or a modern PoC City Strike style figure. But I think the love of Heavy Metal made me like him the most. I'd say give him a Harley and some riot gear, but you got to keep the sword as well. I wonder how much of Budo's character was derived from Hama's Wolverine. I'm no Wolverine expert, but there is a certain je ne sais quoi that reminds me of Wolverine, based on his filecard, which is all we have until DDP Special mission Toyko,
