This is pure speculation (on my part) as they are mass-created to fit the figures - but I think aftermarket wise they are harder to re-create then say the rubbery world peace keeper vests. That's at least my guess on the matter - if not then someone should start making molds for them and or create and sell them in various colors!
I'm not an expert on plastics nor on casting methods, but would be interested to know what they are made of, and whether they could be cast as opposed to e.g. injection moulded. |

What is the legality of creating molds of Hasbro accessories anyway? Just curious, but I imagine you might not be able to legally reproduce those vests and sell them. If, however, you produce your own original molds, which is probably very technically challenging, then I'm sure it would be okay.

If they do infact make their own moulds, I can't see making webgear and vests as more difficult than making accurate heads (but I'm an engineer rather than an artist, so I may be wrong! ). |

I don't know. Most of Marauders's guns look like original creations but some do look like recasts of Hasbro weapons. I'm sure there's some fine line as to what you can actually do legally. If you made a vest or weapon from scratch that looks exactly like the ones Hasbro packs with a figure, I suppose there's no infringement. But if you made a figure that looked exactly like POC Low-Light or Dusty and tried selling them, then you would run into trademark/copyright issues.

Alyosha has made quite a few posts/threads about this issue. There are certain limits to what he can do, but he's pretty good about making a lot of parts that people want.

There are three versions of the Nullifiers.
The 1988 Nullifier is the Iron Grenadier A.G.P. Pilot. They have to workout on weights for 6 hours a day and have a diet of high protein gruel, that tastes like wet cardboard. The 2004 Nullifier is part of the Cobra Strike Team and is their Cobra Anti-Aircraft Trooper. He looks like a Flak Viper. The 2006 Nullifier is the Cobra Elite Paratrooper. They are on loan to Cobra Commander from Destro. These guy have to workout every day and eat the high protein gruel. |

As for making and selling exact recasts of the weapons and accessories that come with Hasbro's Joes... at best, those are in a legal gray area (my knee-jerk response is that the practice is likely illegal, but I'm not familiar enough with the law to say this for certain). As in many trademark/copyright cases though, whether or not a caster/seller gets into any real legal trouble beyond a "cease and desist" letter all depends on how aggressively the IP holder wants to defend its intellectual property rights. In most cases, I'm willing to bet that the cost of fielding and pursuing a legal suit might actually dwarf whatever losses (if any) they might recoup from a successful conviction or out-of-court settlement (not to mention that there'll be probably some negative PR blowback from the consumers/fan community to consider). Yeah, it's hard to imagine H&K going after someone like Marauder's with a lawsuit. Stranger things have happened I suppose.
Hasbro seems to be really patient with a lot of cottage industry customizers.

Of course they are, it only helps them in the long run.
How many extra figures and vehicles are sold to customizers? It also helps the after-market as well. The more things get customized, the less of that original there are in the after-market.

I was really talking about guys like Slayer and Broken Arrow Toys... guys that cast their own complete figures. Hasbro seems to be pretty patient to them.
