At one time I had tried to separate what is now the HUGE G.I.Joe team into the main teams (Alpha Team, Bravo Team, etc.), support staff, air support, transportaion, training, etc. I slated Gen. Flagg Jr. as the Pit Intallation Commander with Colonal Courage as his XO. They were over the day to day operations of the Pit. While Hawk was commander of G.I.Joe as a whole and Falcon was over the field teams with Flint as his XO. Guys like Stalker and Beach Head became Sgt.Majors with their own teams.

Same here and then My team got bigger. Now I have Colton Running the Show with Lt. Gen Austin as his XO. Keel-Haul is in charge of Naval Operations and Lt. Gen Sharpe is running Operations. Guys like Maj General's Flagg Sr. and Hollingsworth also fill in various command roles then we get down to Hawk(Airborne); Rey(Mech Infantry); and Flagg Jr. (Armor); and Roughneck [Urban (Jackson Fury)]. ANd then I went and added Marvel Universe characters as well sans superpowers.
I've reimagined Hawk as Delta Force during his break from the Desk to the Formation of GIJoe. Speaking of Hawk what has everyone decided to rename the new POC Hawk? I was leaning toward Hard-Drive, but I'm starting to wonder about Rapid-Fire. The only other Captain Infantry Officer we got besides Grid-Iron and Claymore.

think you already saw. I relegated him to a Colonal position and have a new top dog. I'll have to post pics of Moore later.

I'm not sure how I'll use him.
I think Rapid Fire works great for him. Rapid Fire will be Flints XO in my "Fire and Forget" team. Which I'm dropping down to 8 members.

i'll definetly be picking up extras of that Hawk though. I dont like the Steel Brigaders so I'll be using him as the new Green Shirt base. Never been able to get Hawk till now, and now im going to have like 20 of his heads lying around.

So here's something that occurred to me recently--when the Joe team was formed, Hawk was a colonel and was promoted to brigadier general in a few years. All the modern "re-inventions" (ROC, Renegades, POC, not sure about Resolute) continue to portray him as a general. I think I'd prefer it if he was lower-ranked. Even lower than a colonel, maybe a major or even a captain.

In the Army, Major are usually Company Comanders of Special Ops Companies.

Too bad the IDW reprints don't reproduce the letter columns... IIRC, a reader sent him a letter asking about the GI Joe chain of command, and I think Hama listed the XO as either Wild Bill or Torpedo, the two most senior Joes in terms of pay-grade after Hawk... don't forget that Wild Bill and Torpedo were originally ranked as W-4s, which purely in terms of experience, places them a significant level above Ace or Doc, who were both captains. A warrant officer, on average, has 23.8(!) years of service by the time he/she makes it to W-4 (according to a study conducted by the Navy's CWO Time-in-Grade Committee), whereas an Academy or ROTC-produced Army captain or navy lieutenant probably has anywhere between five to twelve years time in service on average. I know it's somewhat unusual for a warrant officer (even one ranked as high as these two guys) to be put in a lineal command position, but I think it makes sense with a special unit like GI Joe, considering that SF Groups and SEAL Teams do place their WOs (W-2s and above) in lineal command positions instead of O-2s (Army first lieutenants and Navy lieutenants, junior grade). This was years ago though, so I'm probably misremembering, and this was before the first appearance of Keel-Haul (in the comics), before Hawk got bumped up to general, and definitely before the introduction of characters like Slipstream and Falcon... the comic book might have been from late 1984 or 1985 or thereabouts. Past a certain point though, I think any pretense of a strict and "official" chain of command pretty much fell away, between Hasbro's introduction of all sorts of characters and what I feel was Hama's declining interest in the property post-1990. |

He could have been a brand new LT. and not received a duty station yet?
Sometime in the 70's Hawk had to get out from behind that desk and do some bad-@$$ s#!t to get tapped as the field commander for a Special Forces unit. Or Hama would explain it as that's what Hawk TOLD Stalker and Scarlett because what he was really doing was Classified.
