I want a sniper, just not sure who. Hollow Point would be out as he'd be part of the Marine unit.
It would only be Crankcase. Only need 1 "driver" for the team. Flint Crankcase Wild Bill Outback Need a medic, explosives and what else? Names I'm tossing around: Hit n Run Airborne Crazylegs Tunnel Rat Alpine Muskrat

Just found something interesting on the 101st wiki site. From early 70's to 1979 they were authorized to wear a blue beret. But 1974 was the last year of jump status for the 101st moving to an air assault structure. So is that where the idea of Flint's "Blue-ish" beret came from?
The remaining Ranger companies from the Vietnam War were still allowed to use black berets post-1980, but most of these units would be re-flagged in the early 1980s. When the 75th Ranger Regiment was formally stood up in 1986, they adopted the black beret as their headgear (by then, Gen. Bernard Rogers' ban on unit-specific black berets had been lifted). So going by the timeline of when the Flint character was designed (pre-1985) and when the first Flint figure came out (1985), it's likely that Rudat meant the black beret on Flint to signify his being a former member of the Vietnam War-era/pre-75th Ranger Regiment LRP/Ranger companies (these are different from the modern-day 75th Ranger battalions, both in function and in training, BTW) or the post-1980/pre-1986 "interim" Ranger battalions. Of course, all of the above assumes that Rudat meant for Flint's beret to be coloured black from the outset. It's just as likely that he meant for him to have a green beret (the flash design -- very reminiscent of the one used by the now-defunct 6th Special Forces Group -- makes me suspect that this might have been his original intent) but for whatever reason this was changed prior to production. Heck, maybe Hama was working off of an uncoloured prototype when he wrote the filecard and just assumed that the production figure would come with a green-coloured beret, hence his decision to write Flint as SF.
Maybe the colour change was instituted to reduce the number of factory colour apps or maybe it was done purely at the whim of a Hasbro exec (anybody who has worked as a designer in any corporate capacity before has probably experienced an executive or producer "hijacking" a design and forcing changes based purely on his/her personal whims). |

While we're talking about Flint, in the UK comic series he was the UK team leader (I don't remember seeing much of him in the US Marvel series), certainly worth a read (MARVEL UK) and we certainly see him flying helicopters.
Here's his UK filecard too for reference. I note the filecard (the UK one and the US one, which are identical other than some additions in the UK version) mention the order of his training... |

That UK card is weird. Those are all US schools but he's from England.
I do like the part about the "us army belt". Nice way to cover up for the figure having a us army belt.

I suppose if he was going to stay in Special Forces and keep a WO rank, then he might requalify as 180A.

I like replacing Outback with Big Brawler. The team doesnt' really need a true survival expert. They are all trained for that.
I'm thinking of adding Lady Jaye to the team as well. Crossfire and Crosshair are good additions. I need to make some Big Brawler, Crossfire and Crosshair figures... Others: Beachhead Spearhead Sneak Peek Spirit or Dart Custom figures: Medivac (a PJ, just makes sense to have a PJ as medic I think) Six-Gun (heavy weapons)

Yeah, how I see it, there might not have had an opening for an 180A, and he saw an opening at Flight Warrant Officer School, opted for that and then side stepped back over to Green Berets once their was an opening again. I always likened Flint to be the anti-Rambo, because he learned his way rather than fought his way to the top (Maybe Im combining Rambo and Rocky but I havent been impressed to watch his movies yet).
I disliked the voice actor choices for Spytroops and Valor vs. Venom that made "Flint" sound like Rambo). So yeah, I got a mental picture during "Green Zone". Flint leading Airtight, Flash, Tripwire, TunnelRat, Lightfoot, Clean Sweep and Ozone, a bunch of EOD and NBC guys searching for Cobra's WMD's. So here's an update on a possible timetable for mid-80's Flint timeline I'm still trying to piece together (not Modern Era Joes). -Airborne 82nd or 101st (Pri-Cpl) -Then I would think Flint went to Ranger School (not 75th Ranger Reg.) -Green Berets as a 18C (Sgt-SSg) -Helicopter Pilot (WO1-CW2) -Side-stepped back to Green Berets as 180A (CW2-CW3) For drafted and led half dozen rescue missions -Then Joe Team. 84 |
