This week I finally rented and watched the library's copy of "The Green Zone". I started to think about Flint's prior Special Forces role before becoming an XO on an A-Team. Looking at the Tiger Force Filecard of Flint, His 2nd MOS is Demolitions. So could it be possible during his enlisted time in Special Forces he was an Engineer Sergeant (18C)?
18C is a real possibility and I hadn't really thought of that before. I read Dick Couch's book "Chosen Soldier" which details Special Forces Training - awesome book - and the 18C training sounded a lot cooler than 18B. 18B was the "easiest" course, the obviously the 18B spent all their time learning about weapons and learning to shoot expert on everything. 18C were not only blowing stuff up, but building stuff and fixing stuff - I bet Mr. T on the A-Team was an 18C - sort of like a Combat Engineer on steriods. From what I understand from the book, once Flint went Warrant Officer, he would have had to requalify as an 18A - it's the second longest 18 series qualification course, the longest being 18D (SF medic). SF Warrants obvously are XO's on A-team, and often lead teams... so they're considered "command Officers" more than just "Technical Experts". I once had an SF Major tell me that SF Warrant Officer was the best job in the Army - you get to spend your entire career with the A-Teams.

I watched that in the theatre... It's been since Platoon/Casulaties of War since I've seen an Anti-War War movie.

I think we mean 180A SF Warrant Officer?
But Flint as a 18C would be a good fit. But I suppose he could have went to Flight Warrant Officer School and then back to SFs as a 180a. But then would he have to do further 180A training? I don't know how that differs, other than a little more Intelligence and Operations courses. However, it would probably be more likely he was just smart enough that they sent him to Flight Warrant Officers school to further enhances his already impressive skills and he came back as he was already a Warrant Officer to begin with.

I figured he left Special Forces to fly helicopters. Flight school training would be a waste of money on an 180A. He'd end up as the bus driver and have to leave his team every time he inserted them somewhere.

So Warrant Officer before Flight Warrant Officer school or after Flight Warrant Officer school.?
I realize the latter makes more sense from a reality standpoint, but Flint's character is more 180A than anything else. I don't think I've ever seen Flint fly a helicopter come to think of it. I've seen him fly a Skystriker, a Sky Hawk maybe a Conquest X-30?

I disliked the voice actor choices for Spytroops and Valor vs. Venom that made "Flint" sound like Rambo). So yeah, I got a mental picture during "Green Zone". Flint leading Airtight, Flash, Tripwire, TunnelRat, Lightfoot, Clean Sweep and Ozone, a bunch of EOD and NBC guys searching for Cobra's WMD's. So here's an update on a possible timetable for mid-80's Flint timeline I'm still trying to piece together (not Modern Era Joes). -Airborne 82nd or 101st (Pri-Cpl) -Then I would think Flint went to Ranger School (not 75th Ranger Reg.) -Green Berets as a 18C (Sgt-SSg) -Helicopter Pilot (WO1-CW2) -Side-stepped back to Green Berets as 180A (CW2-CW3) For drafted and led half dozen rescue missions -Then Joe Team. 84

Off the top of my head. Flint flew a Dragonfly during "Red Rocket's Glare" the late night Extensive Enterprise Op.

If you really need him to be an SF Warrant, it would make more sense that he got a civilian pilot's license as a Joe and just skip Flight Warrant Officer School completely.

I'm just wondering what the timeline is to become a 180A or a WO-1 Helicopter pilot. Flight School could be as little as 12 Weeks to 20 Weeks. Which isn't that long considering he would be career military.
But is there a requirement for Helicopter Warrant Officers to go to the reserves for a few years after Flight School?
