Guys, I know that y'all have talked about the Navy's SWCC program before, but I've just recently taken an interest... so, the SWCC is basically the Navy's aquatic version of the Army's 160th SOAR? Is that right?
Also, have y'all read that 3 Coast Guard Officers have earned the SEAL Trident, and are currently serving in the SEAL Teams for 7 years? Oh, I'm feeling a custom coming on. Quote:
The only way Marines can go to BUD/S is if they transfer to the Navy and go in as sailors. The Coast Guard is the only other US service allowed to send personnel to BUD/S. Even that includes a 5-7 years commitment to serve on a SEAL Team (If the program is still active).
If someone wants to be a special operator, Navy SEAL is second to PJ in terms of time starting training to actually going on missions. Marine dive school is 35 training days or 2 months long (depending on the source). Why in the world would a marine go through BUD/S for dive training and put up with an extra 4 months of other B$. In that extra 4 months he could be finishing jump training and preparing to deploy with his unit. BUD/S is for people who want to be Navy SEALs. Nobody goes through for fun. Quote:
I remember those Disovery Channel Navy SEAL documentaries. Some of the guys looked sad or pissed during the interviews, talking about training all their careers and maybe never doing anything "cool".
Side Note: Supposedly two coasties should be graduating SQT in the next month or so.

It will take years, at that rate, for the Coast Guard to get enough qualified personnel to really start anything new. On the other hand, the idea of a USCG "SEAL" Team is rather interesting. The Domestic version of Delta/CAG is the FBI's HRT... and they're supposed to also cover maritime domestic terrorist operations. However, having the USCG develop their own domestically deployable verison of the SEALs, which would fall under DHS, seems like a nice balance to the FBI's HRT. That's obviously a long way down the road, but it could happen.

HA HA HA
I don't know; I don't know that those guys could put up with him. It probably takes Torpedo and Wet-Suit to keep him in line. It was a strange notion to convert Shipwreck into a SEAL, I'm not sure why they did other than he was a popular character. Then they made Top Side... I guess they thought, "Maybe having a regular sailor around isn't such a bad idea afterall." Honestly, though, what would a Navy sailor be doing on the Joe Team if he wasn't a pilot, a SEAL or SWCC? I guess if they had an Aircraft Carrier they would need crew, but those guys wouldn't have to be full Joes.

And for those that want to keep Rampart as Navy, having him be a gunner on a boat makes sense too.

Well, what I'm waiting for is for Cutter to now become a SEAL. I figure with the new USCG/SEAL program for USCG Officers, Cutter is a shoe-in to get a slot. I mean, nearly 30 years with the Joes... he's got to be their first choice. Plus, he coached the swim team at Annapolis... you know the guy can swim.
Rampart, I never thought of him as anything but NAVY. He might work as SWCC.

I made Rampart a Marine. Just seemed a better fit for him.
Cutter leads up my VBSS team.
