I had forgotten, but you're right - Hawk wouldn't be part of this leg of the mission. If he was in the field, he'd be where he could run C&C.

Yeah I forgot Hawk and Mirage would be the other one. How would your 8-10 man Mortar team be set up? Artillery Officers would seem silly. You couldn't be expected to carry the 60 mm Mortar from the Forward Observer set.

So, I see Short Fuze, Downtown and Humpty as being the true Mortar guys - they'd be the Gunners, who also function as the leader for each mortar team. An Army mortar team is made up of two guys, whereas the Marines have three (these numbers also apply to the number of actual mortar teams in the 60mm mortar section for each service). Because these are Joes, I'd probably assign only one additional Joe per mortar to serve as the Assistant Gunner/Ammunition Man (these two jobs were held by two separate guys in the Corps, hence the additional man). Grand Slam would likely fill the role of Fire Direction Center (the guy who translates the forward observer's Call For Fire elements into weapons data for the mortar crews). Bombstrike is a FAC, which means she can also function as a FO. In this case, the primary mission team will be handling their own observer duties, so Bombstrike will probably assist in the FDC, by handling RTO duties. If you have the extra body, it's very desireable to have an RTO to talk to the observer while the FDC computes the firing data. So that's 8 people. Add 2 more to function as security while the crews are manning their mortars, so that'd be 10. Every member would carry as much ammunition as possible - meaning their entire rucksack is stuffed with as much as they can physically carry. I guess I'd lean toward insertion by helo or truck. The best scenario would be a vehicle capable of carrying all personnel and equipment being delivered by a helo. The vehicle drives off the bird, the crews set up the mortars and they stand by until needed. Once the primary mission team is safely extracted (meaning they no longer need mortar support), the crews break down, everyone jumps on the vehicle and that haul ass for friendlier areas. |

Why not use 3 Awe-Strikers? Although 2 of the new Vamps would be better as everyone would get a seat. So who would be the 5 extra guys? Zap, Heavy Duty and Mirage stand out to me as Mobile artilleryman. As far as Security guys I suppose you could use anyone.

I'm gonna have to sit down and work that out. Some of the characters that were suggested are unknown to me, so I'll be visiting YoJoe to read up on them! |

I think the other 5 should be security guys. Someone has to protect the mortar team when they beat feet.

Maybe that's what I'll do with Heavy Duty. The weapons he came with were... well, stupid IMO.
I'm more or less in agreement. I'm just working it out as to who the 5 will be. |

Guys, I know that y'all have talked about the Navy's SWCC program before, but I've just recently taken an interest... so, the SWCC is basically the Navy's aquatic version of the Army's 160th SOAR? Is that right?
Also, have y'all read that 3 Coast Guard Officers have earned the SEAL Trident, and are currently serving in the SEAL Teams for 7 years? Oh, I'm feeling a custom coming on.
