With regards to Chuckles, Wikipedia says about CID agents:
Quote:
Special Agent candidates must be currently serving in the active Army, National Guard or Army Reserve. Enlisted soldiers must be US citizens, at least 21 years of age and a maximum grade of E-5 SGT (non-promotable). Candidates must have served at least two years of military service (not more than 10 years), at least one year of military police experience or two years of civilian law enforcement experience and a minimum of 60 college credit hours. Other requirements include (but are not limited to) credit checks, physical fitness requirements, normal color vision, the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance, a drivers license and no history of mental or emotional disorders. Some requirements may be waived.
Quote:
To qualify for Warrant Officer positions, candidates must be at least an E-5 SGT, currently serving as a Special Agent, with 2 years of investigative experience with CID, have a Top Secret clearance and a Bachelors degree (waiverable). Candidates must have also demonstrated leadership potential, management abilities and good communication skills.
In my Joe-verse, Chuckles is a CIA guy. |

I think Maximum grade of E-5 (non-promotable) has more to do with an individual that may be stuck in a more clerical Army career. One who can't get promoted for whatever reason, either his position does not lead to another higher position that warrants a higher rank or he is in a career field that may soon be phased out.
That's my guess. Congrats on the Nuptials Topside!

However with a codename like Airborne these would be his choices: United States Army XVIII Airborne Corps 11th Airborne Division 17th Airborne Division 82nd Airborne Division 101st Airborne Division (Now Air Assault) 75th Ranger Regiment 173d Airborne Brigade 4th Brigade Combat Team (ABN), 25th Infantry Division 20th Engineer Brigade 1st BN (ABN), 509th INF 4th Psychological Operations Group Army Special Forces Delta Force US Army Long Range Surveillance Companies US Army Pathfinders

To the best of my knowledge it was never pointed out. But considering that the 101st is now an Air Assualt force and no longer "Paratrooper" it would be a good fit for him, as a Helicopter Assault Trooper.

Airborne was always one of my favorite Joes and I loved the card art of him going down the line from the chopper, guns blazing.
I definately don't see him "stuck" as a helicopter gunner. I think he needs an upgrade to Ranger or 101st Airborne. Whoever jumps from helicopters.
