The Sideshow Joe figures are improving, but are still way overpriced, in my mind. Those are $80 figures at the most, IMO, compared to what $100-140 gets you in terms of technical quality (sculpt, paint, stitching, articulation, etc.) and/or sheer number of accessories in other Sideshow licensed lines (like their recent Star Wars and Indiana Jones figures) and lines made by rival companies such as Hot Toys (the 1:6 mass market leader in sculpt and paint), Enterbay, and Soldier Story.
The defense that the Joe figures are more expensive relative to the level of execution because the characters are licensed from Hasbro doesn't fly... Hot Toys and Enterbay produce almost exclusively licensed content these days (and more expensive movie and video game licenses at that), and they manage to put out museum-quality sculpts and paint work that blow Sideshow's GI Joes away while still maintaining a similar price point (give or take $10 to $20). Hot Toys' Chris Taylor figure (licensed from the film Platoon) actually looks like it's worth $135... it wouldn't look out of place in a museum's Vietnam War diorama. Sideshow's Flint, on the other hand, at $125, looks like it's at least $40 over-priced if we're comparing the technical merits of the sculpt, paint, and outfit. If I could tell Sideshow what to do with the GI Joe license, I'd tell them to subcontract the actual production work to Hot Toys (Sideshow already distributes a number of high-profile licensed movie tie-in Hot Toys figures based on the Predator, Terminator, Iron Man, Thor, and Resident Evil film and/or video game properties so I'd like to see them do something similar with GI Joe) and have them re-do the figures already released (especially that godawful Flint and that blob on his head that they tried to pass off as a beret). The current Sideshow GI Joe figures look like they're Medicom-level in terms of quality... not bad at ~$80, but not upper-tier $100+ product. I'm still a little angry with Sideshow: When this first started, their whole deal was "realistic updates" and for the most part that's been true. However, the face sculpts of Flint and Beach-Head were REALLY bad... and they have yet to get ONE BERET COLOR correct!!! I actually bought custom berets for all my sideshow figures so they could have the proper colors (and flashes) made out of real fabric instead of plastic.

Has anyone been reading the IDW series? We don't talk about it much, and I'm too lazy to start following another thread. Plus the fact I'm out of the loop a little being in Mother Russia. But I just received a bunch I ordered, So I don't know where the series stands now.
Krake going to be the new Commander? At any rate I finally got my Snake-Eyes/Lowlight/Shadow tracker waves today. I'm a happy man. Except temple Storm Shadow. What a POS!

I've got mixed feelings about Low-Light. From a sculpting standpoint, it's damn near perfect and is probably in my top three of post-25th Anniversary sculpts. But he can't really do a lot with the articulation. You could always use him as a base for some Ninja Force custom, I guess. But yeah, I passed on Temple SS and it seems like everybody else is, too. He's clogging the pegs in my area. Quote:

That's a good idea. Do you have any pics of the fabric berets? I was thinking of getting the Sideshow Snake Eyes and equiping him with some gear from the other 1/6 lines. They make great HALO and Special Ops gear.

I'd heard good things about the show, but never got around to watching more than a few snippets here and there. I always thought The Unit was a good live-action "all-growed up" version of GI Joe.

So would it be overkill or monotonous or perhaps sacrilegious if I bought two more Low-Lights and replaced the heads with heads from ROC Shipwreck and the cancelled arctic Duke w/ snowboard? They both have the knit caps and would make a cool custom SEAL Team. And are there any other Joes with black knit caps that I could use?
