Why do you care that it matters to him? If he gets enjoyment out of it, more power to him.

I was just thinking how much I enjoy this site. It's an awesome community for us Joe fans and a great resource for collectors. The only thing is there seems to be alot of negativity and nit-picking. Just my 2 cents. (maybe I'm just nit-picking) |

i agree the filecards and other personal details are what made gi joe so cool to me,but i feel dude shouldnt get upset because there isnt enough southern joe members in his opinion, and the fact that every other post in the thread is his, i have a right ask why he is so passionate about it.

I'm from San Diego and from a NAvy family. One of the first few Joes I got was Shipwreck and one of the things I can remember is my father pointing it out to me that Hector grew up in Chula Vista. Funny enough Chula Vista is strong in there Hispanic Heratiage. But that Figure being from San Diego always made me seek out Shipwreck no matter where I was cause it was like something from home you know. Yes I'm a Dork, don't care who calls me it. But the Filecards were, are, and will be something great that gives each Character their individualality.

I use the ignore function a lot - saves a lot of trouble, I've found.

Does IGNORE block incoming messages or does it block that member's responses on Threads?

First, I would like to apologize for saying that New Jersey is part of New England. I'm not from the region, and I'm sorry for my mistake. I didn't mean to offend anyone. as a Southerner, I understand as well as anyone about regional identity and regional pride. Second, I would like to thank Troynos for starting this thread in the first place. He's a good friend, and we share a lot of information and opinions. His information and Posts are always great and well thought out. I always enjoy my friend's Fogger1138 and Cold Slither's Posts as well. Both of you do great research and offer thoughtful posts all the time. I always look forward to reading them because I learn something and am entertained. Thanks very much to the both of you. And now to answer "The Conflict". I am sorry if my posts have seemed excessive to you, or if my opinions have somehow offended you. That was certainly not my intent, mainly because I do not know you. There was no need for you to tell Troynos to back off when he defended me. It's his thread, and he's my friend. I would have done that same for him and probably not been so discreet about it. This is a thread about file cards. I have enjoyed it very much, but it would be an exaggeration to say that half the posts are mine. I've posted a lot, but not half. Seeing that this thread is about file cards, one of the most long standing features of the file cards is the Place of Birth. It interests me for many of the reasons mentioned by SnakeMoe. However, it would seem that I'm not the only one interested. I grew up an Army brat. My family and it's roots are from Mississippi. With Dad moving around, I never had a childhood friend that lasted more than one of my father's tours of duty. Military brats move on, make due, and find new friends. I'm not complaining, I wouldn't trade it for anything, but it can be a bit lonely. You aren't allowed to put down any real roots or build any friendships that lasted very long. Friends came and went. Except for G.I. Joe. Most of my favorite Joes come from places I've lived. I know they're fictional characters, but somehow for a child and his imagination, that was enough. To me, the hometowns of the Joes made me feel like I understood them a little bit, and that maybe they weren't so different than I was. They were friends from real places, who I'd known my whole life... and I felt a kinship to the Southern Joes especially; they probably had accents like me. Now that all sounds pretty childish, but I was just a child. And sometimes the bonds we form in childhood, those really deep childhood beliefs, transcend age and reason and we carry them on into adulthood. So here I am writing about the part of the file card that matters to me - the part I connected with - on a thread, started by a friend, that is all about file cards. I'm sorry if my enthusiasm has been offensive or overbearing. I have always tried to write well informed, well written, and interesting posts. I have always tried to contribute positively to this community of my fellow enthusiasts. Some calls us Dorks, or Nerds, or Fanboys. I don't know about those terms. They're not terms with which I identify much. Rather, even though I'm grown and have two graduate degrees and have served my Country as an Army Officer, there is still part of me that refuses to grow up. I'm just a big kid, deep down, that still loves G.I. Joe and one of the biggest reasons I loved G.I. Joe to begin with was because I connected with the characters because of their hometowns. SnakeMoe, thank you for sharing a similar experience. Conflict, I hope that answers your questions and concerns. Troynos, thanks again for a great thread. You always do great work, sir.

Well, I leave a thread for a while and it seems that every body misses me - or complains about me.

I didn't mean to offend anyone. as a Southerner, I understand as well as anyone about regional identity and regional pride. Absolutely no need to apologize my friend, I am sure you meant no disrespect. I enjoy your posts and your passion on the subject. Cheers. |
