Deployable Operations Group - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I just found this link. So basically we're both thinking of the same use for Cutter. If you made a Coast Guard Taclet he'd be deployed with the Navy, and probably in charge of his own unit. Boarding Team school is the first step, PS or Port Security rating is a close 2nd, you need either of those, usually to move on to MSST, or Taclet ops, and or schools.

Beyond Cutter and Topside, there aren't enough Joes to round out a team. So have to get creative and make our own.
I made Barbecue part of the team. It just seemed like the best place for a Joe firefighter to be most useful.

absolutely and I actually added Barbeque to my Coast Guard force as well. He works well for either branch

Cutter, Shipwreck, Rampart and Topside are my SWCC. They operate either the SURC, NSW RIB, SOC-R, Mk V SOC or WHALE. Cutter is the helmsman and OIC, and the others serve as gunners.

You can make Cutter a SEAL since the Navy has opened BUD/S to the Coast Guard, but that may be a bit of overkill.

I was under the impression that SWCCs still used SEALs for their officer billets. Also the small boats usually have an enlisted SWCC in charge. I'd think you'd need Coastal Patrol Craft to see officers on board. I pretty sure a senior enlisted can be in charge of at least three RIBs.
You can make Cutter a SEAL since the Navy has opened BUD/S to the Coast Guard, but that may be a bit of overkill. I know that the commander of a Special Boat Squadron is a Captain (O6) and the commander of a Special Boat Unit is a Commander (O5) so I figured maybe the head of a boat detachment was an Ensign or LTJG, but a PO could certainly do the job of a helmsman. I haven't heard if they use SEALs or not as commanders of SBUs though. |

In fact at one time I know that SBT-20 had 14 two-boat detachments and 2 Mark V detachments with 21 officers and 250 enlisted. So I'm assuming there's an OIC for each detachment who may also serve as a helmsman on one of the RIBs and most definitely on a Mark V but I can't confirm this yet.

Yeah, I've been unable to find info on the structure and ranks of a typical RIB or Mark V SOC Detachment. I'm still digging.
