DDP is an alternate continuity, officially non-canon, especially now that the original ARAH has restarted.
Also DDP played faster and looser then Hama's ARAH, with accuracy and the characterizations. I use Mayday, Firewall and Mariner in my Joeverse, but altered to fit as I do most of the characters.

We probably need to have an archive for all the file card stuff we've discussed here so that those with questions can get quick informative answers. Here's a brief hisory and some info about modern Rangers:
1. Ranger units were disbanded after the Korean War ended in 1953. 2. During the Vietnam War the first provisional Long-Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) platoon was formed in December 1965 by the 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne. 3. In June 1967 the army authorized the first two Long-Range Patrol (LRP) companies, incorporating men from the LRRP platoons and incoming replacements. 4. On January 1, 1969 the LRP companies were redesignated as independent Ranger companies under the 75th Ranger Infantry (Airborne) but continued to function in the same capacity as "Lurps". 5. The 1st and 2nd Ranger Battalions were constituted in 1974. The 3rd Ranger Battalion and regimental headquarders were not activated until 1984, giving birth to the formal 75th Ranger Regiment in 1986. 6. Today the Ranger Regiment acts a rapidly-deployable, light-infantry, airborne-qualified, special operations unit. 7. To join the 75th Ranger Regiment new recruits must complete Basic Combat Training (BCT), Advanced Individual Training (AIT) or OSUT, and the Army's Airborne School. Then they must graduate from the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program (RASP), known previously as the Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP). Graduates earn the privilege to wear the tan beret, the Ranger Scroll and the distinct black training uniform. 8. Prior to November 2001 only Rangers wore black berets, but the color changed after other Army troops were granted the privilege. 9. For future career advancement as Officers or NCOs, Rangers must eventually complete Ranger School in which they earn the coveted Ranger Tab. 10. Any soldier who completes Ranger School is "Ranger Qualified" and may be referred to as a "Ranger" even though he isn't serving with the Regiment. 11. Infantry Officers, Special Forces ("Green Berets") and other units are encouraged to attend Ranger School and in some cases, as with team leaders of Long-Range Surveillance Units (LRSU), it may be required. 12. Note: Since Stalker served as a LRP in Vietnam he probably became a Ranger after the LRPs were redesignated during the war. He probably never served with the 75th Ranger Regiment and he most likely went to Ranger School some time after his first tour of duty in Nam.

Don't ever be afraid to ask a question in this thread. Somehow, the folks here are able to debate things, sometimes quite passionately, without flaming, trolling or being a jerk. As for the DDP stuff, a lot of people felt the way you do, but when IDW picked up the classic Marvel series I remember there being some sort of announcement that the DDP stuff was now considered to be an alternate continuity. As for me, I still love characters like Zanya, Firewall and Mayday - but I actually do prefer the Marvel/IDW continuity.

Thanks for the reply guys. I find it a bit strange that they actually went out and said it wasn't cannon, as every iteration of G.I.Joe has been somewhat different and practically it's own universe. Anyhow as any person who has a bond to this as all in this thread does I'll take what I want from the DDP 'verse and incorporate into my own After reading what was posted before this post another random question formed: Is Snake Eyes Ranger qualified and/or regarded as a ranger? - he was LRRP with Stalker after all. |

Nothing hard for evidence but the majority of us think he was actually Special Forces, Green Beret.

He was a LRP so that makes him a Ranger/LRP by default and I believe one of his later file cards says that he did attend Ranger School, so that means he has the Ranger Tab.

As Troynos pointed out, his Special Forces status comes from the fact that he served with SOG during his tour in Nam and SOG recon teams consisted of Green Berets and indigenous soldiers. This also explains his classified profile. |

Hasbro can say DDP is non-Canon all day long if they want to... the ROC toys still had Kamakura, and Wraith wasn't all that long ago. They pick and choose what they want to keep of DDP.
Declassified was Hama - It was written as the Prequel to ARAH. It should still count. And Troynos, are YOU willing to say goodbye to Barrel Roll? I didn't think so. ;)

Looking back on it, the first filecard is correct. You're totally right, he's a Marine Corps drill sgt. I should have known better!

Sneak Peak Side Track v.2 And there's all kinds of Joes we think should be Rangers but aren't sure of becaues there's no "hard" evidence: Airborne, Rip Cord v.1, Spirit, Pathfinder, Hit & Run, etc.

So what do you guys think of Claymore? Hit? Miss? I love him from the waist up and I'm thinking I'll have to swap out his legs and waist but with whom? The helmet looks great. Classic style which gives me hope that Footloose may make an appearance sometime down the road. Wonder if they rewrote the file card to better highlight him as an SF Officer?
