Crystal Ball's filecard said he was from Bangor, Maine. Stephen King's son Joe did the filecard. Stephen King has a house here in Bangor

I got a set from that Singaporean seller when he first listed them. Even now knowing that they're available at Ross, I still think I got a great deal $55 shipped to Oz. Sandstorm is very cool and still undecided about the Pink Viper..

So tonite I was at work, skimming the GI JOE THE MOVIE (1987) script from the latest dvd release. I found a Joe named Riverboat on pages 149 and 162. Not quite the name I was hoping for. But we would get either a navy or army river craft trooper or pilot out of him.
Any ideas or thoughts?

Riverboat?
That's really interesting... where in the script did he appear? What was he doing? He could be a Marine... like with the Swift Boats in Vietnam.

On page 149 Beach head is explaining to Hawk that the Rawhides arent ready for battle and they need someone to stay at the base to contact Flint. Then the scene switches to... Quote:
"Wave after wave of Tomahawk and Dragonfly choppers fly off, many carrying Joes vehicles slung underneath. PULL BACK to show Jinx, Riverboat, Tunnel Rat, Big Lob, and Chuckles in the IMMEDIATE FOREGROUND waving at the departing Joes.
It may suggest that Riverboat might have been an early draft name for Lt Falcon, with those two references surviving the rewrites. Yeah, Oliverbox, I can see "Riverboat" being a Marine, could he be your long awaited Marine Officer? His name is growing on me. I might just have to create him. I do like the script better than the finished movie, seemed like for the movie they had to cut out alot of stuff and made most everyone 2-dimensional. But the script feels like a continuation of Sunbow. Lady Jaye and Flint, Wetsuit and Leatherneck has a few scenes together. Even Hector Ramerez makes a cameo. Also seeing Flint and Iceberg in Skyhawks with Lifeline flying a Tomahawk searching for Roadblocks unit would have been interesting. Tho maybe Flint should fly the Tomahawk and Lifeline fly the other Skyhawk would be easier to handle. The final battle would have been better with all those vehicles were being air-lifted by the helicopters to the Himalayas. Instead of what was shown in the movie, Hawk in a Snowcat, and everyone else as infantry. But then the movie would have been a 10-parter episode, instead of a 5-parter.

I was hoping he was in the Rawhide introduction scenes, but he isnt. I plan to keep searching till I find more appearances.

Then the other scene on page 162. He appears during the Rawhides Assault on the enterance of Cobra-La against the Dreadnoks. So far in those two appearances he really doesnt do anything significant that identifies him. It may suggest that Riverboat might have been an early draft name for Lt Falcon, with those two references surviving the rewrites. As for "Riverboat", it's a nice code name... and it does make me wonder what they envisioned for this character. There's no way to know for sure, but it seems like G.I. Joe was always updating certain specialties... For example, Duke was a "leader" character and Special Forces. Then we get "Flint" a year or so later, who was also a "leader" and Special Forces. Stalker was a Ranger, then Beach-Head showed up as the team's new Ranger Gung-Ho was the team's Marine, then Leatherneck showed up as the team's new Marine. Torpedo was the team's original SEAL, and then Wet-Suit showed up. You get the idea. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. But it does make me wonder what "specialty" they were trying to update on the team. And with a name like "Riverboat" it seems like a SEAL or a Marine would make sense... and perhaps he was even a Southerner and a gambler (like ACE). The Mississippi River has always been famous for Riverboats, so perhaps it's just wishful thinking that this character would have been from my neck of the woods. In any case, I'm sort of envisioning a Southern gentleman, gambler type of character with a moustache and possibly a goatee... maybe even a cowboy hat and revolvers. I suppose that's just one take on the character, but I figure Navy or Marine Corps.

Interesting theories. Following your train of thought Oliver I would think Riverboat may have been an intended update for Shipwreck? Although Riverboat "Mississippi Style" would have been a fun play on words with the "Brown Navy" Riverboat, which Shipwreck was originally famous for.
So what was Big Lob? Bazooka and Alpine combined? Tunnel-Rat is an interesting one since he sort of takes the place of Tripwire and Zap, but he is a homage character to Larry Hama.

So yeah anyone can look at the script in the 2010 GI JOE THE MOVIE release on a computer dvd-rom and select 'printable script'. It's 192 pages of awesome mental images.

The problem with these "extra" characters like Leathernck, Wet Suit, etc. was mentioned in Bellomo's book. He says that at Wave 4 of the Joes, Hasbro wanted to keep cranking out new characters to refresh the line, so to speak. Larry Hama wanted to use existing characters to fill some of these roles. For example, based on the file cards Airtight could have been Flash in a new uniform and with new equipment. I beleve he wanted to keep the team small. like under 50 characters or so. Larry also cited "Star Wars", in that they were doing multiple versions of Luke, Han, Leia and others but not as many minor characters.
