Well I've noticed the 25th is starting too put basic troops into other areas (Like the Cobra Diver) so I figure they could be the urban ops Trooper who support AV's

I don't think it's lazy. It's a catch-22. If you make a new character, people will complain that the old one isn't there. If you change a new character for a new time, people complain. There's no way to make everyone happy. Well there is, but it involves people having to "give" a little, and no one likes doing that. The case of Dial-Tone. They're trying to pay homage to the classic character, but making the concept more relevant to today's world. There are more women in the military, so there should be more women in Joe and to do that and make it less "jarring" would be to take a B-list character like Dial-Tone (no offense to those who he's a fave of, which includes me, but he's never been in the top 10, know what I mean?) and make the change there. If it's done for a story reason, there's nothing wrong with it.

They changed Ripcords for the movie. The female Dial-Tone is part of the IDW comic, not Resolute.
My reimagined Joe, I defined the characters specialties a bit more. One of these days I'll have to get it finished up. I wrote the "bible" and a couple of short introduction pieces. The idea was it was something I could add to and write little adventures instead of doing a full novel (since everytime I try a novel, I never finish). |

True, they could work pretty well there.

As far as making Ripcord black I am not sure why that was needed as well. They could have easily had Sgt. Stalker in there, I certainly hope they don't try to make Spirit something other then Native American(I know he is not in the movie but for the future). I have nothing against new character's or adding more women in the military. I was impressed by James Cameron's Aliens in which the women kicked some ass

I'm waiting on the Black-Ripcord until the movie comes out. Feel it's kind of pointless to argue about it until either a script is viewable or the movie has been seen.

This is a good point Troynos, and I am trying to remain open minded as well. I will try to go in with level expectations as well and not be to high or low on it

They are the infiltrators and spys first and for most. Per the filecards. They are lawyers and accountants because what better way to make money for cobra but the legal ways. 2nd if they are not on assignment, they are honor guards to cobra commander. Then there is the combat branch. Here is where I have to bring my Joeverse in (I always try to base my setup to filecards and comics as my main source and trying to find a balance from all three media formats of Joe.) ok. My CGs are setup like my Vipers/troopers. (Using 25th Anniversary sculpts and ARAH for historical reference) You have 2 Platoons consisting Troopers (Cobra legion box set version) (E-1 to E-4) Comic PacK officers (I don't use him as Scar-Face) (E-5+ Squad leader & Platoon Sergeant) Led by a CG Trooper (TRU 3pk) (O-1/O-2) Together making up a company led by a CG Officer (TRU 3pk) Each Company has it's own CG officer. ***CG Officers are the closest 25th Anniv. has to CG commanders. And comparing file cares they seem to be the same, and I have to assume that Hasbro just did not want to make a new sculpt. I don't view CG commander as one person incharge of the CG Corp since that is what Tomax and Xamot do. Per the file card they are upper level CG/Team leaders. Then like the Vipers I have A group of CGs plus Officer to act as shock troops This is the Infantry side. CG Immortals I view are the Heavy Assualt Mechanized Branch of CG Corp. (Immortals - like in 300. Heavy/Armored Infantry.) ***I Use the TRU exclusive CG 5pk. They are refered to as Immortals on the box. As with the CG officers I have to assume that Hasbro was cutting corners again. The color scheme looks is just silver instead of gold and matches the CGs and CG officers so If I had more UBP I would use the Red Hiss and Driver as their Work horse. With ASPs and Tanks for back up. You have the Immortal troops riding mechanize with CG Immortal Officers in charge of each team. Both Infantry and Immortals together, I call Springfield Brigade. Tomax and Xamot are incharge. Then You have the Fred series and other Named Series whose main job is spying and honor guard. Each series has their own CG Officer all reporting directly to Cobra Commander I'm still out on the Whole Shadow Guard thing...I like they idea someone here said that they are like the gestopo but I see them more as cobra commanders way of keeping checks and balance on the CGs. |

There are "rumors" in filecard and comics that the CGs actually existed in some form before Cobra was a cohesive organization that Cobra Commander used them to build up the financial resource he need to make Cobra grow...maybe even ten years before the events of Marvel issue 1. He premiered them as the "Crimson Guard" some later in the series as the next evolution of this secret group. Consolidating them in to a team and the Fred series.
Except for their unifroms...which I view as just dress/honor guard uniforms...They are my fav cobra. |

Probably Urban troopers assigned to Alley Vipers. I don't like the new movie figures. I will get on MIB if I can because I am a completist as well as a troop builder. But I would be making them part of my Joeverse. |
