Thanks blackrazor1, so facial hair is (or at least certainly was then) definitely allowed, well that makes the script in Green Zone more believable then, just depends on whether you guys reckon snatch and grab is part of what they would have been doing in Iraq.
BTW, was that NG series any good? |

As far as how hirsute SF soldiers are allowed to be, check out Robin Moore's excellent book, "The Hunt for bin Laden." He says that right after 9/11, they were told to grow out their beards, and in many of the pictures they are sporting such non-standard clothes as jeans and fleece pullovers.
I love the part where one of the SF teams couldn't organize their mission very well when in lock down phase so they ended up being consigned to the CO's staff as punishment. |

To whoever tagged this thread with 'lurking is crucial' can you please stop with this crap!. It was bad enough when people ended their posts with 'crucial', now its just getting beyond infantile.

Cool, thanks.
By the way, while looking at my current phonebook there is a Fairbairn family in Wichita. Maybe thats why it became a word-pun like Alpine, Cutter and Sci-Fi (etc). Since Wichita is known for mixed Indian-Caucasian ancestry.

Funny you should mention it, I just read that. I like his account but must admit I read it after reading 'Task Force Dagger' and after reading both, I couldn't help but think that Moore's was very biased. Good book though.

So, I picked up isseus 156 & 157 today. I knew what Oliver had posted, but I also wanted to read them with an open mind. The way I intepret what happened with the immigrants was that the Joes were trying to stop a group of unarmed civillians from being killed, regardless of who was doing the killing. Yes, the vigilantes did take out some of the Cobras, but in this case the enemy of my enemy wasn't a friend. Just my 2 cents worth.

Perhaps not, but I thought one of the important points was that the Cobras didn't report seeing the Joes, because they had been saved by them, which I suppose is an attempt to show a human side to them (rather than the evil henchman/bullet fodder they normally appear to be ;))

Am I right in thinking that SF are not Tier 1? I was wondering what tier would be used for the capture of members of the deck of cards, and thought Tier 1 would probably be the ones...? |

Thanks chaps, looks like some more viewing and reading for me to do!
Yeah I wasn't sure whether their use in Vietnam was due to them being one of the few special operations forces about at that time, while now, you guys seem to have them coming out of your ears ;) Am I right in thinking that SF are not Tier 1? I was wondering what tier would be used for the capture of members of the deck of cards, and thought Tier 1 would probably be the ones...? Tier 1 : CIA SAD (SOG), Delta, DEVGRU, ISA, 24th Special Tactics Tier 2 : Special Forces (Green Berets), Seals. MARSOC, USAF Special Ops Wings and Tactic Groups , PSYOPS, SWCC Tier 3 : Rangers, USN EOD Units, SF Capable Marine Units (CBIRF, ANGLICO) Not sure about the 160th SOAR they seem to fall in the middle of tiers 1 and 2 because they lend support to both tiers. |
