Flint's file cards are pretty interesting. He was named for the mystery Author, Dashiell Hammett. Which stands to reason given Flint's education in English Lit. And though we're told he earned the Rhodes Scholarship for graduate work at Oxford, we're never told where he did his undergraduate work.
Anyway, His rank was screwed up in his first file card, but his secondary specialty changes from his original file card: helicopter pilot - to his Tiger Force file card: Demolitions. He's also HALO qualified. Flint can do it all. He's really well-rounded. Who would be the best well-rounded Joes?

Normally when that happens - different home towns, different real names - we just admit that they're different characters.
Airborne v1 vs. Sky Patrol Airborne Long Range (I think there were two) Side Trackv1 vs. Side Track v2 (sometimes called Ranger Side Track) Why are we not doing that with Mercerv1 vs. Merer v2? Should we be recognizing them as different characters? Quote:
The others (Long Range, Sidetrack, Airborne) are different in not just name, but in other ways as well.
Mercer is the same, filecard says basically the same thing except for name. I chalked it up to his background, one was the name he used when first got out of the Vipers (trying to hide his identity) and the other the name, his real name, when he officially joined the Joes. Quote:

A lot of my Army Unit when I was in the service was from New York, though they lived in the south.
In Basic training, there was even split between new yorkers and southerners with a handful of people from here and there. In Medic training we had mostly Midwesterners, Bostonites and people from conneticut, rhode island area. then a handful of southerners and hispanic descent southwesterners especially Texas since we were in Texas. I can't remember what point I was getting at but that is that. As far as what bases are in what states, many of us didnot have anything to do with the military until the recruiter duped us into signing up. So I wouldn't read to much into bases execpt from a what unit were the Joes most like in prior to being a Joe. (Unless it specifically states that a military base was influencial on a charater's life.) |

Well, you live in New York. Obviously you couldn't appreciate Miss Scarlett's Southern culture and heritage. For many of us in the South, Scarlett was like our sister. We knew she was tough - she was one of us.
Or perhaps she wasn't "Elegant" enough for the high society of Brooklyn? |

I believe the convention filecard had something in it saying that the name change was because he was brought into the regular joes for some reason (change name, appearence, birthplace, etc for security purposes) but couldn't cope being straight edge and went back to the renegades.
Yeah. Felix Stratton, E-5 (2006 card), where he joined and left the Joes. 1991 card, where he joined the Joes, says: Richard Cecil, E-9 (Richmond VA). 1987 card, after he left Vipers, Felix Stratton, E-5 (Spencer W. VA)

I'm going to post this thought again, though I've posted it many times. I understand the file names are often given in honor of a Hasbro Employee. And I don't have a problem with that at all. However, it would be nice if they could spread the love around when it comes to Places of Birth. A lot of States can only claim one Joe -I know, I'm biased. Mississippi only has one: Roadblock - and Rode Island has a ton of Joes. It's disproportionate to population and geography.
G.I. Joe is not supposed to be: A Real New England Hero (assisted a little by other schmucks from around the rest of the country) I have no problem with New England. I love Boston and New Hampshire and New Jersey. I have cousins in Connecticut and New York. All I'm asking for is a little more equal representation. Before a State gets a third Joe, maybe all the other States should have at least 2 Joes. Roadblock is gone. IDW combined the Character with Heavy Duty and kept the name "Heavy Duty". As it stands currently, there are no Mississippians in G.I. Joe. Perhaps I can offer a suggestion for a character to replace him: Marine Force Recon Officer Code Name: Rebel Rank: 0-6 Place of Birth: Oxford, Mississippi Just a suggestion. |

Being a New Englander, I should be ashamed of myself for missing that.
