Nice work, Jon. I think that offers a lot of clarity. Could these USAF Combat Control guys also call in Artillery fire, or are they only for calling in Air Support? How rediculous is it to have Bombstrike doing this job? Are women even allowed? They are not allowed in Army/Marine Corps Artillery, or Special Forces.

Those AWACS planes must be a pain to fly. I can't imagine the havoc that huge radar dish makes with air flow.
I agree with the training/recruitment of the Cobra troops. There's probably some ex-US military in there as well. That's what makes them so dangerous and hard to get a handle on, the differing tactics from around the world. The Troopers are the equivalent of basic thugs and mercenaries. These are the people with no specialized training. The basic cannon fodder. Vipers/EELs are those that have had special forces military training of some form. Officers have had basic military training and some leadership skills. If you think about it, the Cobra Officer Corps (Vipers, Officers, etc..) must be pretty damn good. Instead of controling a group of like-minded, similar upbringing people; they have to deal with people of vastly different cultures and sometimes languages. Not all of these people would speak english, or even good english. So would Cobra officers be multi-lingual?

My CobraVerse Heirachy: part 3 based loosely on file cards and comic
The new python patrol is not part of my Cobraverse. Python Patrol is a small specialty unit...Jungle mission mostly, and inflitration/Scouting. It is their uniforms and special comoflauge pattern that make them hard to see on radar. Officers and troops are assigned for Python Patrol: Copperhead (Mercenary. O-4 if I assigned a rank.) Tele-Viper (E-5) rear support, communications, hacking, intel. Crimson Guard (O-3) Tele-Viper (O-1) Tele-Vipers (E-5 plus) Officers/Troopers (E-1 to E-5 - support roles...kitchen, tech/repairs, Stun, ASP Drivers) Infantry Teams Crimson Guard (O-3) Tele-Viper (E-5+) Vipers (E-5+) |

Recruitment: Per file cards and comics: cobra recruits mercenaries (will military experience) but the bulk are recruited from prisons. Cobras are dissillisioned individuals, thugs and criminals approached by cobra members who tell them what they need to here to join. They are then trained by cobra in para-military skills. see this special mission issue. G.I. Joe Comic Book Archive Officers are basically troopers taht show common sense enough to lead a group. Vipers are the next step followed by specializing. Last edited by PhilDpino; 12-09-2008 at 02:08 PM.. |

Women are not allowed to do this job in the Air Force, it is roughly the Air Force equivalent of Green Berets or SEALS (they have to be in order to keep up with those units). It might me possible that BombStrike is an ABM (Air Battle Manager) These individuals work in an AWAC air craft (large plane with huge radar disk on top of it) and coordinate air strikes over a huge target area. They coordinate and allocate air strike packages for the entire battlefield. They are best suited to do this because the AWACS has the largest radar field. Also ABMs are best used in large scale conflicts whereas Combat Controllers are specially trained for the smaller scale engagements where spec ops troops would usually be located.

Are there any specialized Vipers or groups in cobra (or versions/colorations there of) that you guys just refuse to make part of your Joe verse because
1) their filecards made them seem pointless/stupid etc 2) they just look god-aweful as figures 3) other troopers already exist for their specialty explain your reasons sighting filecards and/or comics. Mine would be the Neo-Viper Core. They are officers equivilant according to their rank and their file cards are so vague as to exactly what they do and they just seem to be glorified Vipers making them seem like basic infantry troopers. |

I'm sure anyone can move up in Cobra and it probably happens alot. Even the petty thieves. Cobra has gone through a ton of troops. I imagine that there are Cobra Cells everywhere and from what I've seen, Every part of the world speaks English to some degree. Although I suspect the Officers mostly speak English, and other languages as well.
