I'm just saying, could Dial-Tone be Special Forces?
Originally, he came with a black beret... around the same time that Flint came with his black beret. Then he shows up with a Green Beret. I'm just saying... maybe?

Oliver,
I know you're using Sgt Stone as a Marine based on his tattoo in the movie but his filecard says he is a "Special Forces Commando" and there is no tattoo on either version of the figure. Not to mention the beret. I know this has been discussed before but can you refresh my memory on your rationale? Also, I see you have Claymore on your list what about Super Trooper & Rapid Fire? Claymore & Falcon are the officers on my primary A Team but I really like the characters of the other two and would like to include them provided they had more realistic uniforms. I was thinking a secondary A Team made up of the Joe Rangers and led by those two. |

Rapid Fire is a good choice.
Dial-Tone could work, along the same lines as Breaker.

Claymore & Falcon are the officers on my primary A Team but I really like the characters of the other two and would like to include them provided they had more realistic uniforms. I was thinking a secondary A Team made up of the Joe Rangers and led by those two. I'm actually using both Super Trooper characters (Lattimer - U.S., and DeNiro -UK) and Rapid Fire. I'm using the Torsos and arms from the Delta-6 suits and the legs from Wraith. Then we're painting them differently - Lattimer is going to be in Woodland Camo, DeNiro in Desert Camo, and Rapid Fire in Urban Camo. I'm basically using them as they were originally designed. We haven't been able to paint yet, but I think it's going to work well. I'm also doing a second version of Rapid Fire in urban camo with a regular uniform - this is based on his 12" figure. He'll work with my Delta/Rangers as a second team leader. I totally agree with you - these characters are WAY too good to pass up. Sgt. Stone is interesting. I have him painted as a member of my ODA Team - and he's going to also be painted as a member of the Marine Recon unit. I talked with Marine_Deadpool about this and he mentioned these possibilities... 1. MARSOC Marines are sometimes sent on exchange programs to the Royal Marines. Stone could have earned his beret with the Royal Marines in their commando course. Those guys are considered a "Special Forces Unit". 2. When MARSOC got started, some of the Recon Marines may have been sent over to Ft. Bragg to go through the Q-Course and earn their "Special Forces tab" even though Marines don't wear tabs. It's possible that Stone could have earned his "green Beret" at that time. 3. It's possible that Stone was a Prior Service Marine, and then enlisted in the Army to go into Special Forces - in other words, the tattoo from the movie could have come before the beret. You raise a good point about the toy not having a tattoo. However, since this character is specific to the movie, I feel that the movie's continuity should be given some authority about this character. And you know me, I'm always looking for another Marine on the Joe Team. I like Options 2 & 3 best. So I'm going to use Sgt. Stone as something of an in-the-field liason between my ODA Team and my Marine Recon Unit. That's just how I see it. Thanks for asking.

How are you using (if at all) RoC Hawk?
He's got a beret and with the Quaid head is really a new character if using any of the 25th Hawks (which really, out of the 3, they can all really be different characters).

I put RoC Hawk's head on 25th (Bomber Jacket) Hawk's body. He'll get painted as a member of the ODA Team. After reading the Action Force Battle File that Hawk was from Delta Force - it didn't seem like a terrible stretch that he could have gone to the Ranger Regiment (as an Artillery Officer) and then to Special Forces on his way to commanding Delta.
Action Force's explanation that he commanded Delta made a whole lot of sense to me. How else would an Artillery Officer get command of the Joe Team?

Yeah, that always kind of bothered me. How an artillery officer becomes leader of an elite (essentially) infantry and spec ops unit.

Can artillery officers move towards SF/Ranger/Delta via becoming a FAC/whatever the artillery equivalent would have been in the 80s?

Artillery is a Combat Arms branch in the Army. Artillery Officers can opt for Ranger School and the Ranger Regiment needs Artillery Officers for Forward Observers, and coordinating fire missions etc.
For Special Forces, a soldier can try out for SF from any job. They apply for a slot, or sometimes SF will hold open try outs. It would not be difficult for an Artillery Officer, especially one who is Ranger qualified, to go to Special Forces.

Hey guys, just been away for awhile. I picked up "The Green Beret's" movie from Wal mart and wow. Really awesome, I see the A Team being modeled after the movie. John Wayne's birth name is Marion Michael Morrison (Col Morrison). Templeton Peck is a carbon copy of Sgt Petersen. B.A. Baracus I kinda see as a combination of MSgt Muldoon & Sgt Doc McGee and Hannibal is Col Mike Kirby. Just wished it translated better into the A Team.
So after the movie and the research Ive done. Ive decided to change again my GI JOE Group one more time. This time into OD-A Style Teams. Im not making them all Green Berets. Just turning them into 12-14 man "A" style teams and a 16-man Naval Detachment Team (VBSS/SEAL), with a Squad of Armor, Pilots for 4 Helicopters and 1 Cargo Transport plane and a load master and one fighter. With HQ's LTC Hawk, need one more Officer to be XO, WO Scarlett, FSgt Stalker, Snake Eyes, and SFC Friday.
