Tyroc, here's more on some of these code names...
Chevron - Could be applied to a Marine, but it's not exclusive to Marines. Dry-Fire - refers to the firing of a weapon, usually for training purposes, without ammunition. Fire Watch - one of my favorites in this group. All Marines have spent time on fire watch. Flak Jacket - Again, this could be applied to a Marine, but it's not exclusive to Marines. Grinder - This would apply especially to any Marine who had served as a Drill Instructor. Hard Charger - File this one along with Devil Dog, Jarhead and Leatherneck. It's a term of endearment used with ridiculous frequency among Marines. "Hey there Hard Charger, how's it going?" Iron Mike - This is the name of an award bestowed on Marines who score a perfect 300 points on the Physical Fitness Test, it gets it's name from the statue in front of the Commanding General's building at MCRD Parris Island (see photo below) Red Leg - Artillery Man (applies equally to Army and Marines). However, the term "Red Patch" or "Red Patcher" refers to the Marines in the Landing Support field, who wear a small red patch on their soft cover and on on each leg of their cammies (see photo below). Swagger - short for swagger stick (antiquated symbol of authority). This is what Sgt Slaughter carried around with him. White Wall - slang for appearance of the head after a Marine hair cut. |

Chevron - Army and Air Force enlisted personnel wear "chevrons" Dry Fire - same here; everyone dry fires weapons. Fire watch - every soldier in the Army stands fire watch, and all the services have recruits do it in basic. Flak Jacket - Every Army soldier wears one in combat. Grinder might work Hard Charger - every soldier hears this term all the time; it's synonymous with "High Speed". Example, "That guy is really High Speed." "Yeah, He's a real Hard Charger." Iron Mike - is the name of the Infantryman Statue at Ft. Benning, and lots of other places in the Army and the USMC. Red Leg - Army Artillerymen are also called "Red Legs". In fact, the Marines send their artillerymen to Ft. Sill, OK for Artillery Training. Swagger could work White Wall - This term gets applied to anyone with a government issue haircut.

All good names Tyroc. I forgot to mention the other consideration for Mace as a marine is the tie in with the C.O.P.S. toyline which seemed to borrow Joe names and vice versa. The Mace from COPS was a former Marine. (Larry Hama wrote those filecards for COPS)
Other COPS codenames: Mirage, Bulletproof, Checkpoint, Inferno, Airwave, Mainframe, Barricade, Long-Arm and Hard-Top. I so need to buy the reference guide. COPS HQ - The COPS N Crooks Reference Site And I know you've posted it before but I still love the Loose Cannon file card and character. Awesome stuff. |

The A Team
Season 1 Episode 14 'A Nice Place to Visit' Another flashback episode, fun awkward but interesting easter eggs. All four even Murdock has Infantry insignias on the lapels. Smith, Peck, Baracus have the Green Beret with 5th Special Forces Flash. Murdock had a Hard cover. Smith has Lt Colonel oak leafs, Special Forces and a 101st shoulder patch a Combat Infantry Badge and Parachutist badge and something next to his oak leafs that looks like blue cloth and undeterminate insignia. Murdock has Captain bars, a Aviator Badge and halfway thru the episode a patch appears on the sleeves, I cant tell what unit. Peck has a 1st Lt rank, a Combat Infantry Badge and a Parchutist Badge and halfway thru the episode a Special Forces shoulder patch appears. Baracus has Specialist-6 rank on sleeves, a Combat Infantry Badge, a parachutist badge and the Special Forces shoulder patch.

Here is what Ive drafted as the preliminary roster from the episodes I have watched. And from what i wikipedia'd for Special Forces and remembered from our conversations. Trying for realistic functional active, in the action, ranks and MOS. 1971 timeframe. -Samuel Morrison a Lt Colonel the CO of the 5th Special Forces Battalion. -Bosco Albert Baracus, an 18C Engineering Sergeant E-5, E-6 or E-7 (depending on when the last time he struck an officer.) for an OD-A Team (He seemed to be more engineering sergeant in vietnam than in the motor pool which is what we mostly think of B.A. driving the van). Chicago, Illinois is apparently his hometown and his mother calls him Scooter his childhood nickname. -Templeton Peck, the Logistics E-6 or a Logistics Warrant Officer for the OD-B Company HQ (He did most of the obtaining items like Logistics and supply). In 1969 part of an OD-A Team as (18E) Communications Sergeant or a Warrant Officer (180A) for OD-A Team. -Major John Smith as Operations for the OD-C HQ Battalion. Im not sure how this works. The plan is to make him grey hair by 1983, maybe Hannibal works his way up from E-1 like how Johnny Rico did on "Starship Trooper". Dont know how to work in the disguises. Formerly of 101st Airborne, as Captain he was part of an OD-A Team as 18A in 1969. This way all 3 members would have experience as part of an OD-A TEAM, but by 1971 only B.A is an OD-A for the mission for the bank heist during Tet new year in 1971. Morrison was struck by Baracus and wanted to frame him. -Murdock will stay as Captain as a Rotary wing pilot and has familarization with several Turboprop and Turbofan Fixed Wing Aircraft. Dunno if the mention by Faceman that Murdock was Thunderbirds was BS or not. Murdock was not part of the OD-A Team, dont know if he was accused and sent it to prison in 1972. Or if he stayed in Vietnam until 1975 then certified himself into the VA hospital. So what do you think? blackrazor1, oliverbox, fogger1138, loose cannon, tyroc, tanksmasher, lifeline71 and our fearless commander troynos, and YOU too, your opinion can count too. Quote:
