Harmon Rabb Sr was the father of LtCmdr Harmon Rabb from JAG. he was shot down in Vietnam and became a Soviet prisoner. Michael Long was the title character from Knight Rider. He was a Green Beret in 'Nam then joined the LAPD. In the Knight Rider pilot he adopted the Michael Knight ID after facial reconstruction surgery. |

Oliver - I apologize if you already said this, but are all of these guys actually supposed to have been Marines or did you retcon them for your own Joe-verse?
I am working on creating my own custom Marine team, so I am interested in figuring this out. I was already aware of Lt Stone, Gung-Ho, Leatherneck, Sgt Slaughter, Sgt Stone, Hollow Point and Mainframe. I am also somewhat aware that there has been much debate over Bullhorn. What's the story with the others? Welcome aboard! Glad to have you on the thread, and it's always nice to have someone with active duty experience. The exact number of Marines withing G.I. Joe is debated. Obviously, Lt. Stone (Extreme) was a Marine, but not in the ARAH continuity. He's the ONLY Marine Corps Officer in ANY Joe continutiy. So I wanted to use him. As for the ARAH/2th/ROC/POC continuity (basically, the 3 3/4 toys), the number is debated. It's easier if I go down the list and explain where necisary. 1. Gung-Ho 2. Leatherneck 3. Mainframe 4. Sgt. Slaughter 5. Hollow Point 6. Mace - released in around '94 as a part of Battle Corps. He's an Intel Operative but, like Loose Cannon said, his file card mentions "the shores of Tripoli". That just wouldn't make any sense for anyone but a Marine. So our best guess is that he's a USMC Intelligence/HUMINT collector. 7. Mirage - His first appearance is as a member of the Mega Marines. The exception to this is Clutch - but he's always been in the Army, so that's just weird - but given the fact that Mirage's first appearance is in a unit called "Mega Marines" and it's led by Gung-Ho, it's reasonable to conclude that he's a Marine. 8. Blast-Off - same deal as Mirage. He appears first with the Mega Marines. 9. Bullhorn - The question is whether he's USMC or FBI because "Quantico" is listed on his filecard. He was a Hand-to-hand instructor and a pistol expert. My contention is that he's a Marine because they list him as Enlisted. If he were an FBI agent who was transfering over the the Joes, he would be an Officer - like Sure Fire or Bullet Proof. 10. Ice Storm - He's in the unreleased Wave 3 Alpha vehicles; he drives the Polar Sharc submarine. He's listed as a Sergeant, not a Naval rank, so it only makes sense that he's a Marine. However, it may be more likely that he's a British Royal Marine - their Moutain Warfare training specializes in Artic conditions. Considering ROC liked to include international members, it seems reasonable that he could be a Royal Marine. 11. Sgt. Stone - in the ROC Movie, when Sgt. Stone shows up, he raises his arm in the air, and the Eagle, Globe and Anchor tattoo is visible on his right forearm. The beret obviously makes no sense for a Marine, but after talking with a MARSOC Marine recently, he said that sometimes US Marines are sent to England on and exchange program with the Royal Marines - he could have earned a beret there. Also, some MARSOC Marines may have gone through the Q-Course at Bragg and earned their Green Beret... it's just another option. Regardless, Sgt. Stone has some connection with the Corps. So for my custom team, all the Marines are ACTUAL (or at least arguable) Marines in the Joe continuity. Retconning backgrounds without some evidence isn't something I like to do much.

This is something near and dear to me, having spent almost 10 years in the Marines. I really like KaBar as a codename, but I'm not so fond of Devil Dog. That term has become something that all Marines call each other. A Platoon Sergeant might greet his troops at morning formations by hollering "Good Morning Devil Dogs!" at the group. The same applies to the nickname Leatherneck, but I'm about 25 years too late to argue that one. I'm not saying don't use it, but it would be kind of like giving a Sailor the codename Swabbie or calling a Soldier Dog-Face or Troop. Just my 2 cents...

Yeah, thanks Razor
Thanks also for all the comments on Audit and Stone. Oliver, love your take on the Marine group and the Intel group I cannot wait to see. This is how I use the A-Team and other toy line groups.. 1960 Joe Colton graduates valedictorian of USMA West Point, commissioned a Lt, he is put into a covert group called Fury Force. Capt Flagg is in charge and becomes his mentor and life long friend. 1963 Last Mission of Fury Force. Colton is promoted to Captain and given his own team by President Kennedy. Code Named GI Joe. His immeadiate superior is now Col Flagg. 1967 John Rambo undergoes SF training with an angry young man named BA Baracas. 1968 Thomas Magnum graduates Annapolis. Amidst the chaos of the Tet Offensive the GI Joe Team falls, the only survivors are Colton and GI Nurse (Adele Burkhardt). 1969 Colton leads one last mission in Vietnam. A mix of Seals and Green Berets, the team includes; Lt(Jg) Thomas Magnum, John Matrix, Sgt John Rambo, Sgt Dillon, GI Jane (Jane Ann Martelle), Alan 'Dutch' Schaeffer and the son of his mentor Lt Lawrence Flagg jr, Their air support is provided by Lt HM Murdock and Lt Harmon 'Hammer' Raab who is shot down and taken as a POW. 1970 After the last mission a burnt out Colton resigns his commission and joins a group of explorers, scientists and adventurers who undertake missions for the good of humanity called 'The Adventure Team'. The US Govt creates a team to replace the Joes, Called Alpha Team, Col James Braddock is meant to be the CO but goes MIA. Alpha team or A-Team is then created with Major John 'Hannibal' Smith as Field CO. He leads a ten man team that includes Lt Templeton Peck, Sgt BA Baracas, Sgt Michael Long and Lt HM Murdock as air support. Capt Flagg is the XO and a Col Trautman is CO. 1972 The team have many successful missions, Col Trautman is sent back to the US after a bout of malaria. Flagg is promoted to Major and joins INSCOM. Col Morrison takes over as CO and the team is tasked with robbing the bank of Hanoi. Realizing that the mission may be their most dangerous yet, Hannibal onlys takes a small team of 3 others. Morrison is murdered and the original details of the mission go missing. They become fugitives. In the midst of the scandal, the A-Team is disbanded and the members go their separate ways. Thomas Magnum leads an interim team on several missions with mixed Marines, Seals and Green Berets. The team has no official name but is nicknamed 'Magnum Force', Capt TC Carter provides air support. 1973 Trautman comes back and starts the next iteration of the team. Called 'Baker team' 1975 Fall of Saigon Baker team is disbanded and the team go their separte ways. 1976 Col Flagg revisits the Fury Force model made famous by his father, he creates C-Team aka Commando Team. Led by Major John Matrix. 1980 C-Team folds after Col Matrix resigns to raise his daughter, following his wife's death. In its wake a new group is formed Demolition or D-Team led by Major Dutch Schaeffer. 1987 D-Team is massacred during to a mission to Val Verde, the specifics of which are classified. Lt Col Flagg is soured by continual losses, Col Trautman is tasked with SFOD instead. He creates a new team 'Eagle Force'. Eagle Force sacrifice themselves to prevent a nuclear war. Their sacrifice is the beginning of the end of the Cold War. Trautman tries one last gasp at the failing concept and The Forces of Freedom is created. They have several missions before the concept is rested. A year later, Col Flagg and General Austin revive the Joint Special Forces concept and GI Joe is reborn. The most successful relaunch yet.

Tyroc, how are those Marine names? They seem like they could be used by nearly anyone... maybe "Blood Stripe" would work.

All good names Tyroc. I forgot to mention the other consideration for Mace as a marine is the tie in with the C.O.P.S. toyline which seemed to borrow Joe names and vice versa. The Mace from COPS was a former Marine. (Larry Hama wrote those filecards for COPS)
Other COPS codenames: Mirage, Bulletproof, Checkpoint, Inferno, Airwave, Mainframe, Barricade, Long-Arm and Hard-Top. I so need to buy the reference guide.

Seems like Extreme is extremely popular. I've tried to add more and more of them to my Joeverse. Harpoon looks great Blackrazor. I was using the Chief Torpedo from the TRU exclusive VAMP Whirlwind pack. But that custom looks like a must-have. I wanted to add Lt Dolphin to my Joe-mix but I'm sort of done with O-rings.
Hey BlackRazor is Cat 3 customs?
