Gentlemen, I've been disappointed by the lack of interest in our file card competition. There's no question that it was a good idea. In fact, I have wondered why we didn't think of it sooner: "the file card thread guys make new file cards" ... it's so crazy it might just work.
Evidently, the Tank is so weird these days that "G.I. Joe enthusiasts" are no longer interested - AT ALL - in file cards. So, I'd like to move our discussion back to something more directly related to the old cards: I'd like to talk about Bull Horn. I know we've talked about him before - at length - and we've debated his status as a Marine or an FBI agent. I'd us to revisit the discussion, and let's also ask ourselves how much authority/cannonicity we give to the convention file cards. Just trying to get us pointed back in the direction we started: exploring the file cards...

Well, in a bit of good news for my on-going custom project - since a lot of the Wave 3 Alpha vehicles have shown up lately on ebay, I was able to get another Polar Sharc with Ice Storm. That means that I've been able to take the head from Ice Storm, design a custom body for him, and send him to Marine_Deadpool for paint as a member of my Marine Recon Unit.
And thanks to Blackrazor for the advice to include Link Talbot as a Corpsman for that unit - genius. I think it's going to turn out really well. They all have custom (improved) bodies and I've selected parts to make them bigger (except for Mainframe). They're a pretty indimidating unit. Here's the roster for my Marines... 1. Lt. Stone (Extreme - I promoted him to Captain) 2. Gung-Ho (Trigate head) Master Gunnery Sgt. 3. Leatherneck (Trigate head) Gunnery Sgt. 4. Sgt. Slaughter (in 8-point soft cover) Gunnery Sgt. 5. Sgt. Stone E-5 6. Ice Storm E-5 7. Link Talbot - Navy Corpsman E-5 8. Hollow Point E-6 9. Mainframe E-6 Quote:

Just trying to get us pointed back in the direction we started: exploring the file cards... In the end it's your Joeverse so do whatever you want. The fact that he is not an officer holds a lot of weight as to why he would have been a Marine and not an FBI agent. Too bad they left out that hugely important fact either way. Plus you could make him into a Sniper, and sort of change the Intervention Specialist into some sort if INtellegence gathering MOS. Then add Blast-Off and Mirage and Mace and you got 13 right there. There has to be at least one more Joe who could be Marine-ified for a 14 man MARSOC team. Or heck make a custom guy! I don't pay a lot of attention to the Convention Filecards anymore. But feel free to pick and choose. Why not. Beachhead got a great filecard out of the deal. I think the person writing them sort of gave up. This last batch was particularly poorly researched. I love the form of course, but Flint hasn't been an 11X since basic training. They did good with the NATO ranks though for Black Major and Lt. Dolphin. I got to figure a way to add him in since i don't see myself buying that figure. I think I'm done with o-ring. Love my Red Shadows though.

Hey Lardman,
"Lettering" in a Sport is a term we use in American schools for playing on the Varsity team. That may not mean much, so I'll try to explain better. In American high schools (usually grades 9-12, the school one attends just prior to University), each school plays other schools in all sorts of sports. I'm sure this is no different in England. But not everyone who wants to play is good enough to play on the School's main team. So we have different levels of competition. The Varsity team is the best team and represents the school in competition with other schools at the highest level of competition. These are the teams that are eligible for "State Championships" and other honors. Junior Varsity (JV for short) is the next level. If a player is a little too small, too slow, too weak, or unskilled to play at the highest level, they play on the JV team, and often play other schools JV teams and/or serve as reserve members of the Varsity team in case of injury. "Lettering" in a sport requires a player to earn a spot on the Varsity Team. The term "Lettering" comes from the Athletic School Jackets given to Varsity Athletes. The Jacket is of a certain "traditional" style. It's make in the school colors, usually with a wool torso and leather sleeves. On the Left Breast of the jacket is the First Letter of the Name of the School. I went to Aberdeen High School, so my Letter Jacket was Navy Blue with White Trim and had big "A" on it. The Letter worn on the jacket is awarded for playing on the Varsity Team. This practice continues at University level. American College/University Athletics are VERY competitive. The schools are separated, athletically, mostly by size. Division 1 is the highest level of University/Size and College Athletic Competition. At West Point, every Student is required to participate in athletics. Because they recruit students who are VERY gifted to begin with, competition to make the "Varsity" teams is very competitive. West Point/Army athletics are very tough, and it's a BIG deal to earn the Army Letter "A" on a Jacket. |

I guess more tankers are interested in what one reads on the lavatory or whether one is a brief / boxer wearer...nothing WRONG with such threads but the lack of interest and support is certainly incredibly disappointing. |

Yeah I actually rename about 50% of the customs I pick up. I almost picked up a perfect Bulletproof update but I forgot to up my bid. Some guys seem to have alot of talent too. I think ROC/POC updates are great and usually fetch a good price from buyers. Although Covergirl, Zarana, and Sexy Baroness seem to always show up. And every guy who wastes time making another improved Resolute Snake-Eyes, could have tripled his money by calling him Invasor or if they can paint make a Cobra Mortal or De Aco.

Just call a custom figure Resolute and you're good, lol
Hate that. Kneepads does not make a figure Resolute, lol On Bullhorn. I think he was a Marine (just makes sense for him) and then joined the FBI as a hostage negotiator.

This is not a category I have anything for. I can't even think of a deserving character.
